spare tire on rear lower frame

anybody else bop their under belly spare on the ground?
I noticed today my cover on the frame mounted spare was torn from hitting what looks like pavement

In your pic I can actually see your spare hanging down. I could see how it would rub. Any way to move it forward? I know it becomes less convenient, but the closer to the axle the less likely to drag???

Do you have any bumper casters? If not, install some. If so, try a larger set.

no bumper wheels and i had looked at moving it forward a bit. the factory really hung out back.

i thought I hit it a few days back but wasnt sure till i saw the torn cover i put on it

Are you in Texas right now? If you need someone to weld some casters on, make a trip out to Justin and I can get ya setup. Should'nt take more than an hour depending on how much plastic has to be moved. I've got a nice big back yard and 30amp service, y'all can stay for the night.

took some pics
the one bracket is bent slightly, and the rear frame has the old mounts for the stabilizer jacks, where i could mount some wheels
the tire cover took a bruising, but the tire itself is ok

In the last pic..... Is that the previous mounting point for your scissor jacks? How far from the rear of the trailer are they?

about a foot

the rear fiberglass cap hangs down about the same height
casters may be a serious solution
i just wish i knew 100% where i touched bottom

i think it was at the feed store when i got her weighed for texas plates

well heck then those same casters that I mounted on mine should work for you as well. doesn't look like any plastic is in the way so it would make for a nice quick job

what size caster?
i seen some 4" ers in the camping book, but need to go to hootens and see what they have.

the one's that I installed are about 4" and are straight on (don't swivel)
they are pretty heavy duty and I believe they could take a beating

got'em at camping world for around $30 each

i found some at hootens (rednecks homedepot and lowes, if its not at hootens it just doesnt exist)
anywho 5 bix each for a 4" steel rubber cased 10k rated greaseable needle bearing non swivel wheel
got tw. painted em black and will install in the am...pics to follow

I moved the scissors forward about 6 feet closer to the rear wheels.
two reasons, lots of site we pull in or back on are short on the paved or packed surface and the tail hangs out
second the closer to the rear wheels reduces the frame BOW when we sit for long periods, i run alot of weight off the tires when we are parked.

i enclosed the pics of the new wheels
they are inexspensive enough if i tweak one it aint no big deal. plus they dont hang any lower than the original rear stabilizer jacks
and one bonus of us at roosevelt state park in mississippi where you can tell the long overhang would make it difficult to stabilize

The reason I didn't go with rubber casters is if I drag while turning then they would "tweak". But like you said, $5 is pretty cheap. And I didn't even think to look at a hardware store. DOH!

Saturday the 27th we've got stuff going on but Sunday the 28th is open for us. Like I said if you wanna park for the night you are more than welcome.
