Spares and Extras

All,

When it comes to spares and extras, what do you recommend? I already bought gaskets for the hoses. What else should I keep on hand just in case?

All ideas and comments are appreciated.

I’ve found that spares & extras just take up space and add weight. Walmart is your friend for spares and extras. But a 15’ electric cord and a 15’ extra sewer hose good addition.

I always carry a few extra fuses of varying AMP ratings.

Depending on your RV power input (30, 50amp) it’s great to have an adapter to allow you to plug into the other power source (especially if your 30amp).

I’ve had to use my 30 to 50amp adapter a number of times. Always due to the 30 amp outlet being bad on pedestal. I also have a 30 to 15amp which allows me to plug into house outlet with extension cord.

I've also found an adapter for 30 down to 15 amp useful at times. Not really a spare but an electrical multimeter is useful at times along with a few twist connectors for 12/14 guage wire. I also carry extra pins and clips for my weight distribution hitch, including the L pins for the bars.

Getting ready for our first 5 month trip the UPS truck stopped here every day for a month.

Rubber gloves
Tool box, big one. Dycore tape. Calk for roof. Calk gun. Calk for shower.
Box for the sewer hose. Our factory device was stupid.
Extra length of sewer hose
Extra water line, 25’ is not always enough
Air compressor
Fitting to attach compressor to water fill line
Electric adapters.
Pads for leveling, I cut up a 2”x10” board and nailed a few together. Get two.
Flaslights, two headband types for late arrivals.
Butane lighter
Little electric heater, why not use their electricity.
Barbecue pit and chimney starter
Spare gismo for closing the water heater cover. They break/fall apart.
Voltmeter
Gallon of Dawn and Calgon
Waste enzyme packets.
Mat for the bottom of the stairs.
Mat for the top of the stairs.
Carpet/mat to cover the area for chairs. Campgrounds are muddy sometimes.
Gin
EMS
Touch up stain for cabinets.
Broom
Flyswatter
12 volt fuses. Removal tool.
Spare keys.
Adapter to connect the cell phone to hdmi. Tv
Wall plate to provide usb connections. Our fiver had one in the radio.
A twelve volt outlet and little inverter somewhere. A big one is better.
Teflon tape.
Wire nuts

One of the most important tools I've ever purchased for my RV's is a screwdriver with that little square head to fit those strange RV screws.

I don't keep it in a toolbox, but in a drawer inside the camper with other like stuff (extra screws, other RV hardware, duct tape...that kind of stuff).

But sometimes nothing beats a plain old screwdriver with the right head on it.

Aside from all of the many "normal" and overboard typical spares some/many carry, the most overlooked (IMHO) is something one will have to manufacture as I did or get clever on storage. Additionally, I refuse to tow after trading in my TT, so I carry additional transportation for enjoying nature in its full extent first hand plus as emergency transportation. I used both this past summer!

Being on 2 wheels in Glacier, Yellowstone, ... were spectacular and the only way to go (IMHO).

Both were required due to the ignorant Arches NP superintendent that lines the road with boulders to prevent cars from parking where they are told not to creates an accident waiting to happen when the wind gust will make you shift unavoidable inches before being able to react.

Fortunately, I have an electric impact wrench (another must have for me), spare tire and wheel that enabled me to crawl to the visitor center where I then went into town to get another wheel and tire (rock ruined 2 wheels and tires) avoiding the whole towing process.

It was more than a simple flat tire that the spare tire and wheel would eliminate, but it did allow me to fix the entire situation myself even though it took 2 days to get the 2nd wheel and tire which is what I was trying to avoid in the first place. I got 2 more days to explore Arches on 2 wheel! always a bright side.

Entire trip was a 100 out of 100 before incident and only dropped to 99 out of 100 after. It happened 2 hours before we were to leave and return home. I might feel different if I had not had a GREAT 4 weeks prior.

This was all new for us.

Yep I know about Amazon. However we have Prime until November. Saved some cash.

Every day i learned something on some site. So I kept ordering. Also I was trying to catch sales.

Our fiver was very complete when we left town. Fuzzes was about it.

Oh, and those damned square bits.
