I missed the bus getting our Rockwood 8280 up to the fairgrounds for cold storage this year so it's going to have to sit outside. We live in northern Minnesota so there will be plenty of snow and wind. I have had RV covers with other campers i've had and never had good luck with them but i guess a cover is better than nothing for winter. I was thinking about what i could put on the roof under the cover because one of the biggest problems i've had with covers is that not only do they eventually tear at the corners but also wear the paint off the RV. Does anyone have ideas on what could be used to keep the cover off the roof and from chafing at the corners? I was thinking about a couple 2x4's across the roof cut a couple inches wider than the rv but they will probably just tear the cover. Also how mush snow would you allow to accumulate on the roof? I know they are not realy made for a ton of weight up there.
I store in My yard in Ontario, Canada where snow is around 2 feet deep on the ground mid winter. I dont use a cover for the reasons you stated [tearing and rubbing the paint] . Snow may accumalate 12 to 14 inches on roof of trailer, but usally blows off the next windy day leaving 5 or 6 inches. I just keep an eye on it in the spring if we get a thaw or rain storm and use a broom and step ladder if it gets to deep.
I've read where others have used tennis balls with cuts in them, pushed over the rainspout extenders (there's a better word, but it escapes me right now) or floatation "noodles" placed at the corners and on sharp edges.
