Tarp my Roof??

Does anyone have any input on tarping a TT's roof for the winter months. My father-in-law is telling me to, so that the roof stays "mint". I know moisture could be a concern, but it's so cold here and the tarp wouldn't be tight to the roof due to roof vent and a/c unit. Opinions would be appreciated.:

I've certainly heard (and read in another thread here) about building structures over the TT to protect the roof, but I wouldn't recommend doing anything like laying a tarp on the roof itself. Wind moves Poly tarps, or even canvas I suppose, and the result is abrasive. Abrasion of the rubber would be more damaging than the sun. Plus, tiedowns often mar the siding.

Well if I'm thinking about the same thing, I think they're lined, kinda like a car bra and they cover the whole unit - roof, sides, and all.

My thoughts on covers. If you park in woods like I do, then tarps tied to trees above the trailer work to keep stuff off and allow air to flow and lower moisture. The ADCO covers are EXPENSIVE, but probably worth the money as to the amount you have invested in a trailer. You boys and girls way up north actually have a benefit of a lot of snowfall, which actually insulates the trailer. Checking the seal of your roof is CRITICAL before the first Ice storm or snowfall to ensure it cant get under the roof and expand. You might want to look at a simple moisture barrier to lay on the roof, like Tyvek or Polypropylene sheeting. You could use a putty which will not permanently stick to the roof to seal it. Just my 2 cents.

I think Welshman said it all in his first reply to this thread. I've seen quite a few articles and threads re abrasion related issues when using blue tarps. Though it does seem to work for some, I would not take the chance myself.

I've never used covers of any kind on my RV roofs.
Never had any problems...and weather here SUX!

Good regular roof inspections, and maintenance is all mine gets.

i had one for my coachman fiver, it did put wear marks on the roof egdges and no matter how taught i had it tied, it still billowed and moved around


puting something above that does nto touch would be great like scuba mentioned, we are parked under a shed roof and it keeps teh sun off but gets DUSTY

We kep our unit parked in the campground over winter... open and on the bay so the wind takes care of excessive snow, while as Steve said, a nice snow-cover protects against a lot of UV and grime. A good scrubing in the spring and its white as ... well, snow.
