Teflon hitch plate

We're on the road and during my most recent hook up the Teflon plate that attaches to my hitch pin disintegrated. There is no place within 50 miles or so that carries said plate, so I put some axle grease on the hitch pin and the capture plate of my Demco Auto Glide slider hitch and have towed it to my next destination without incident. Is there any downside to using Grease instead of the Teflon plate for any length of time? As always everyone's input is both welcome and appreciated. Thank you very much

Other than getting the grease all over you,no no problems.My plate slid into the pin and broke also. I've been using some silicone spry ever since. I will order a new plate before we go back out.It was my fault. I had the pin set too low when I hitched. I always set it low,but must have been to low that time.

I put one of these on upon delivery. Just bought it from dealer's store. I'm making a list for when I get back home next week that I need for the camper.

Amazon has these, but there are 10" and 12". Does it matter? How do I know which?

How many do you go through? One each time????

First one I ever had.Used the teflon spray on the other 5er. Only had this one about 2 months. Others on here have had theirs for years.Like I said,it was a brain fart on my part.I'll get another one.

Thanks so much. I thought as much. Since we're on the road for an extended period ( we're in Natchez , Ms. At the moment) I can't use Amazon and I had no luck finding a plate in this town . Headed to Austin , where we're sure to find one.
