Depending on which type of antenna you have the antenna might need to be rotated to get over-the-air stations. I often camp at the same place and my antenna needs to be pointed in a particular direction along with having the booster on before scanning.

The antenna is not used for campgrounds with cable hook up but as already mentioned the booster does needs to be off.
