Thinking of maybe selling and buying older?? Thoughts?

We currently have a 2011 Sabre 32BHOK. We love it. It is loaded with all the goodies we wanted. However as we are rapidly outgrowing our starter house that we bought before we had kids. It has come down to the point of liquidating a few items and doing without some things. this will allow us to pay off the truck and hopefully put some money aside for land to build on.

My wife and I (and kids) are having a very hard time with the thought of giving up the 5th wheel. We all love camping and really enjoy the family time it provides. Also how easy the camper makes camping!

So I have been looking at older units 2004-2009 with bunks. I have the truck to pull a full framed unit and would want to stay away from the "LITE" models. What would your suggestions be?
Am I going to be frustrated with an older unit, being in a new one for 2 years?
Not sure what I could sell mine for. I see online prices are 25,500 - 28,500.
Dont know if selling for 25K and buying for 10K is worth it.

I use a bike pump with a gauge to pump up my bags after I'm all loaded. It normally works out to be 28-36 lbs of air per bag. That puts the truck riding perfectly level. I do not have the bags linked together. I run separate lines to each bag. BTW EFIlive is wonderful. Its my daily driver, work truck, sports car, family ride, vacation machine and import killer all in one. :-)

Have you looked at any $10,000 campers?
My friend picked up a 5 year-old 28-foot fifth in awesome condition, but I think that was a crazy-good deal.
I haven't seen too many in that price range I would buy.

At least you will have one to use and enjoy.

Climbing the steps from a tent -> popup -> hybrid -> TT -> 5th wheel I personally would have a hard time going back. It's a tough call but whatever you do just keep camping with your kids and building memories. Good luck with your decision.

Check the local REPO yards that is where I bought our older one only Paid 7000 for a 2000 Cardinal, it booked out at 14500. We got a great deal. We started out with the older one, but just remember that you are getting someone elses problem , maybe you can get lucky like we did.

You might have a better handle on this subject once you find a suitable replacement. Then you will need to decide how much compromise will be OK or not. I see pros & cons for either side.

Good luck.

There is no shame in realizing the need or want of downsizing or not having the newest TT on the block. The best part of gently used is a smaller monthly payment (if any), and everything serious that would break already has and been repaired. There are plenty of gently used TT's out there. Good luck

I have had every configuration except the popup. I have gone from the tent to the class A and a Cardinal FW and back down to a used Toyota motorhome and currently a toyhauler. It is not what you have but how it suits your needs at the time, how much you use and enjoy it that counts. The biggest and most expensive do not guarantee the fondest memories.

We went from a small tent to a bigger tent to a huge tent to a fifth wheel. I will probably stick with the fifth wheel as we just bought our second one. So you are not alone in your thinking it would hard to go back

Syencer, how did you locate your repo? I did some searching last night and nothing is on the net that I can see about them. I guess you just have to drive to the yards and take a look right?

As for someone's problems now being mine. I am quite capable of remodeling a TT and fixing other problems. As I did that to our 2000 Rockwood TT. I am starting to like the idea of a paid off camper. I love the comfort of a new 5 year warranty unit. However not having a payment would allow us to look at new property to build on sooner.

I will have to keep my eyes open for a repo unit or clean used one maybe on craigslist or something.
