Tire pressure ??

Just checked my new 8285WS tires. They are the "made in China" TRAILEXPRESS , "POWER TOWING" ST225/75R15C Tires.

Here is the question: On the DOT sticker on the left front side for weight, load range, size ETC. It states on the sticker 65 PSI for max load, But on the TIRE itself it states 50 PSI for max load range. I checked the pressure
of the tires, pressure reads 65 PSI----. The tires are filled with 65 PSI of nitrogen.

Before calling the China mfg company that made the tires, thought I would ask on the forum for the expert opinion.

Are you sure the 65 number is for PSI ?? ST tires are rated at a maximum of 65 mph, and wondering if that is what you may be reading. My eyes have a hard time reading anything on a tire.

I think most C rated tires have a maximum inflation pressure of 50 lbs.

If you do have both numbers there, then leave it up to the Chinese manufacturers to do something like that.

You have a disconnect.

You have stated you have C rated tires (ST225/75RC) and they have a maximum PSI of 50 NOT 65 PSI. If you have 65 PSI in those tires you are flirting with a high pressure blow out since the temps go up when you drive them (as much as 15 PSI more in hot weather). 50 PSI is the COLD pressure setting for C rated tires.

D rated tires carry more load and have higher pressures (65 PSI). Does the sticker on the camper state D rated tire required? If so they put the wrong tires on your camper. If they say C rated; those are the correct tires and there is too much air/nitrogen in them.

Post a photo of the placard on the camper. We could help better if we could see what is on the sticker. The correct tire size is there as well.

Sid, I misread your post. I agree with Lou. 225/15 C rated tires (2150 max. load each) should handle the weight of 2 4000 lb axles (9253 GVWR minis the 1253 hitch weight), but if the trailer label reads D rated tires, then that is what should be on there. Somebody did a boo-boo.

And somebody really did a boo-boo pumping those C rated tires up to 65 lbs. Let some air out of those puppies.

Thanks for the great info. Wish I would have read that before my trip to Oshkosh in 2009. Blew out both tires on the right side on my current TT on a hot (104F degree) day doing about 65mph on tires that were five years old. Talk about meeting all the requirements for a blowout!

I say Forest river put the wrong tires on the trailer at the factory OR your dealer swapped them with another trailer on their lot. Either way you should take the trailer back to the dealer and get the 'D' rated tires you paid for. But first lower them to 50psi.

Have been in touch with Forest River warranty (Doug Fought). Admitted a mistake has been made, even on the DOT & Tire pressure labeling. Made pictures, emailed this information. Since discovering the overpressure, have bled the pressure down to 50 PSI. When picked up in OHIO, the temp was in the 20's, even the trip back home (Florida) the weather was cool. It has not been moved since arriving on 1-30-2011.

I suggest that if you have a RV purchased from Forest River, regardless of the brand or model. Check your tire pressure against the rating on the tire and against the stickers (VIN) and tire rating on the left front of the RV.
This mistake was admitted by Forest River as a "NEW" employee that made up the stickers, including the driver that may have towed your RV from the factory to dealer to the set up crew at the dealer that may have added NITROGEN or air to the tires to comply to the VIN sticker and the DOT tire weight and air pressure requirement.

I am being supplied with new stickers along with a Vin Replacement sticker.

I understand the employee that made up the stickers was on the job sometime in early December 2011. My 8285WS was built on or about the
15th of January 2011.

Just got off the phone with Forest River. They informed me that FR is getting in touch with all the dealers (for lot inventory) and owners to check VIN stickers, DOT stickers of recently purchased RV's from Forest River.

Hope this may have helped someone from having a accident.

The statement was made to me on the phone " If you have a tire problem, we will make it right" for sure. They ask me to watch the tires closely for any abnormal wear, bulging ETC.

Thanks for this information. I will be picking up my new Rockwood 8280WS from RVW next Monday, the 21st. It was built in January. I will be sure to check the tire pressures and the labels.

After many discussion with the Forest River people about my over pressure of tires by 15 LBS, I am pretty sure this has been corrected for they (FR) was alerted to the problem. But to be on the safe side, I would check them. Also look at your VIN number sticker to make sure the correct pressure is stated (50 PSI). Check the DOT tire pressure stickers
located in the same area to see if the correct pressure is stated.

Forest River stated in the second conversation with them, they had been in touch with all dealers that had received the RV's in the affected period
to correct the tire pressure.

I would still check my tires for a peace of mind.
