Travel Trailer Fishing Options

I am a first time travel trailer owner who enjoys fishing. I own a small aluminum Jon boat and a canoe and would like to fish while I travel on various types of waters. I can see getting a truck ladder rack and strap the canoe to that or perhaps a small 12-14 v-hull and a small gas motor transported in the TV bed.

I would rather have something more stable than the canoe as I like to stand and fish when using artificials or jigging for walleye and I would not want to be out on a canoe in any kind of chop ;-)

I am considering the Porta-bote, but I am not sure if the soft flexible bottom would allow me to stand comfortably.

So what I am curious about is what to other anglers do while towing?
Do any of you fish from a porta-bote?

Thanks in advance.

My spouse wants to buy an ocean kayak...he loves to fish and altho we have a boat, its not possible to haul travel trailer and boat unless we take2 vehicles or we takes truck camper and boat. .kayak seems to fit his angler needs, we'll see......me, I fish from anywhere until the lake gods claim all my favorite lures or the mosquitoes welt me past reason. haha

I have a 9 ft inflatable boat. I bought it for $700 new. It weighs 88 lbs, folds up into a rectangle about 4 x 3 x 1, so it fits neatly in a pickup bed. Mine can hold up to an 8 hp motor, plus 800 lbs. Takes about 20-30 minutes to setup. Really stable as well, feels like i could tap dance in mine.

Mine came with eveything i needed, air pump, oars, but no motor or fuel tank. I think in nearly every state, that you don't need to register them unless you use a motor.

I usually have it packed and inflated in the back of my truck (full size), but I think I'll have to fold it up for when my boys and I go on fishing trips with the new trailer.

I've done a number of things in order to fish while camping. When it was just me or me and my DW I racked a canoe or kayak onto a ladder rack like what you described. That worked the best

Nowadays, I'll rent boats as needed because we just don't have the room anymore for a canoe (although I am trying to figure out how to make this work again).

Also, I spend more time than I used to in streams with waders or on small lakes with a float. Bait caster or fly rods work the best.

Just some thoughts for you.

Travel Trailer Fishing

I have 2 Native Ultimate kayaks that haul on the pickup using Yakima Racks. They are pretty stable and I stand to fish all the time.

Freedom Hawk makes an even better kayak to stand and fish. And you can take it apart, so transporting it might be easier.

I also have a one person inflatable pontoon that I use for trout fishing out west. Inflatables pack down to a fairly compact size for easy transportation. This would work well for most fishing but not saltwater where oyster bed are located. Those oysters will cut the pontoons to shreads. You'll have to swim back to the lauch site.

Tight lines with what ever way you go with this.
