Truck and trailer combo
I have a 2016 ram 1500 express v8 hemi 8 speed auto 3.92 possi with tow pkg. I was told from the dealer it had a tow rating of almost 10,500 lbs. I also added air lift helper bags. I used to tow a rockwood mini lite 2104s (about 3900lbs dry) with no issues. I am looking at a new 2017 wildwood 27TDSS (6800lbs dry). I think my truck is plenty capable just wanted to run it past everyone in the Internet world. Thanks for any thoughts

What's the truck's payload capacity?
It's on the yellow sticker, located on the driver's side door.

The Express model sticker will probably be in the 1,700 pound range. Mine comes in at 1,500 with driver, one pax and full fuel (CAT). Fully loaded with 8,000 pound TT hooked up is 300 pounds below max.

You are a real help to this gentleman who has asked for help. You most be an EXSPURT. That's a an unknown quantity with a drip under pressure in engineering terms, BTW.

I would use this PDF from Ram Body Builders to find out what the Ram engineers say your truck can safely tow with what ever attachments are on the truck. Ram Body Builder's Guide - 2016 Ram 1500 Tradesman
Scroll down and under the LH column Technical Information click on the Base Weights/GCW/Payload/Trail Tow. This will provide you with the correct information that you will need. Not some advise from the weight police.

The OPs question is a loaded question. You, sir, obviously haven't slogged through the 1456+ threads similar to this one, where respondants go on and on for 12 or 15 or 20 pages with everyone giving his opinion, whether it's helpful or not, and some of them getting rather nasty to each other (because they're all EXSPURTS, don't you know). If you had, you'd have seen the MANY helpful posts I've provided in similar threads (or at least I think they were helpful - LOL). And you may also have seen this one, where I did try to help, but others got so nasty that the site monitors had to close it:
http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...ss-126259.html.
The popcorn comment is about the only nice thing that gets said sometimes; sometimes we need a little humor to offset the nastiness.
I apologize if you were offended. But if you were offended, I'd strongly suggest you stay out of the "Is my TV enough to tow?" threads or you may get eaten for breakfast.
And don't even open a diesel vs gasser thread.

I have a 2015 Ram 1500 with Hemi, 8 speed and 392 rear end. My trailer is a Wildcat Maxx 28RKX that, according to the sticker, weighs in at 7,200 lbs empty. My truck tows our Wildcat several thousand miles each year and handles the weight just fine. We even tow it round trip from Iowa to Seattle and back every summer and it does great going through all the mountains. It seems the only difference between our trucks is I have the factory 4 corner air suspension which is terrific. I also use the Blue Ox Sway Pro with 1,000 lb bars. This handles everything and is simply a great hitch. IMHO, go for it you'll be just fine.
PS--if your still running the crappy OEM Good Year tires, I'd upgrade them to a good set of load level E range. I ungraded to Michelins and although they can handle 80 psi, I conferred with Michelin on their "e-mail hotline" and to my surprise, they called me. After describing my truck/trailer combo, they recommended I run them at 55lbs when towing. I find the ride to be great even when not towing so I leave them @ 55 psi all the time. Hope this helps!!!

Besides ~~ we already have one engineer here that believes factory weight specs/limits are only goals that can be surpassed.
off to make more popcorn....

Ok guys... let's at least try to keep this thread civil. The site team doesn't want to have to close down yet another truck thread. Enough arguing over popcorn.... I now return you to weight deliberations.

Here are some towing calculators so you can make your own determinations. Remember you will never tow an empty or dry trailer. On average most campers tend to add approximately 1000-1500 lbs of stuff (tools, clothes, food, chairs etc) to their tt. Add that to your dry weight and take 13-15% of that weight for your loaded tongue weight. Use these numbers in the towing calculators. Also remember anything you put in or on a truck (including passengers and tongue weight) will detract from your payload.
