Virginia dealer reference and advice

Can anyone provide a reference for a good FR dealer in Virginia for my relatives. They are south of the Richmond area and are newbes looking for a light weight camper like a Rockwood, etc. They have a new 1/2 ton truck. I'm not familiar with dealers there or this smaller type of camper. So some advice for these future FROGS that I can pass on to them would be appreciated.

There is two in Ashland VA:
General RV (I think is the name)
McGeorges (which is now a Camping World)

A lot of people dont like Camping World, but I've never had an issue, I havent bought from General RV before

There is Dodd in the Virginia Beach area, but they were pricey and seemed more interested in talking smack about my Ecoboost than selling me a trailer, so we have never been back. Not sure what else is in the Richmond area

I got my 2018 21FBRS MicroLite in October 2017 from Snyders on Virginia Beach Blvd at Newtown Rd (on the border of Norfolk and VA Beach). Not had any dealings with the service department, but the sale and delivery went smoothly.

We bought ours at Mcgeorges in Ashland, Va. and traveled from Maryland. It was an A+ experience. We dealt with Kevin McGeorge. I haven't heard great things about Camping World but if the same people are working there it should be fine. It is a huge dealer with a very large inventory. Good luck.

We purchased our MH from General RV (next door to McGeorge) in January and had an excellent, no sales pressure experience. Facility was clean and all employees friendly. In fact, most of the employees worked at McGeorge prior to the Camping World takeover. One of McGeorge's former top directors opened General RV and brought a slew of sales and service technicians with him after the buyout last spring. Nothing but good things to say about them.

I also can recommend General RV, as well as Southern RV. Both have great staff,

Virginia Dealer Reference And Advice

RV World of Virginia is also in Ashland. I've dealt with them and McGeorge. Both have issues in the service department but RV World of Virginia is better than McGeorge. Just my opinion.

Bought ours at RV Outlet USA also. Great experience with sales and parts departments.

A couple next to us bought RV when it was McGeorges but was delivered to them as CW. Believe 2nd time to the shop. OMG what they are going through with CW and the maker of their RV. I would have 2 pages long.

For the person who commented not sure how Snyder's Parts departments is like, well... we drive to Chesapeake RV Solutions.

Agree about the parts department. Not terribly robust, but for a commonly available item, they are close and they do offer a military discount. BTW, my comment was about not having any experience with their service department. No need so far. Despite all the modifications I’ve made. [emoji6]

Funny asked if they offer military discount when I bought something and was told No.

Sorry my bad confusing parts with service department. Past experiences find parts and service work together.

Recently purchased a Puma toy hauler from American Family RV in Chesapeake VA. Satisfied with the experience. Was going to purchase from McGeorge in Ashland until they attempted to sell us a "New" trailer that had obviously been used by someone.

I also agree that RV Outlet USA is awesome, I just didn’t consider them in Richmond area so I didn’t include them

Not changing subject but found this out today. If anyone plans to buy from Dixie RV in Newport News they will become Camping World in the near future.

I bought 2 units before McGeorges was a CW never an issue good deal but now that they are a CW they don’t bargain as much, tried using them a third time and they were thousands away on price from another CW in SC

There is another dealer about 25 miles north of Mcgeorges on I95 that also has Camping Worlds name on it. I've never known them to have them that close to each other. Sounds like a monopoly to me.

Pretty soon they will all become Camping World and I know that won’t be a good thing, only a few dealers will remain non Camping World that can survive.
