I'm going to assume that was a direct jab at me. I guess the fact that I've contacted the state of Maryland means I still just think I know the Maryland regs and am completely wrong.
I'll tell you what since you've been rude, I challenge you to contact MD and get a direct answer that the law says "RVers do not need to stop." from an official in Maryland. Have at it.

I've traveled at 5-10mph over the speed limit all of my driving life and usually don't get pulled over for it. Does it mean that it's legal? Of course not- it just means the letter of the law and the spirit in which is enforced are 2 different things. No matter how arrogant you reply, you're still wrong in Maryland.

In OH, if your plate says the word "truck" on it, it is a commercial vehicle and must stop. My truck says "non-comm", and is not required to stop.

I understand it is only for commercial trucks.
ONE CAVEAT:
IF YOU ARE TOWING YOUR CAMPER WITH THE COMPANY's PICKUP TRUCK, you might get chased down by the cops. The truck is "commercial" so remove or cover the magnetic "sign" from the door.

If I'm in another state, AND a sign says all trucks must pull thru, I'm gonna pull in. I don't care if the troopers are "snarky" It's better to get a dirty look from a Trooper than pay a fine....

I've come the the conclusion that two type of RVers stop at the scales.
A) Those that can't/don't understand that it does not apply to recreational RVs.
B) Those that think they look like big shots sitting in their 1500/150 in line with all the real truckers.

You can save a buck if the weigh station has an axle readout display the Copilot can get a photo of.
Remember the Trooper will be frantically waving you through because of the LONG, LONG line of truckers who are losing money waiting behind you.

Bottom line - the law is the law. If you want to know what it says, well that has been answered.

doubtful cops are going to chase you down. there is a saying among otr drivers ... big trucks..big bucks. i doubt very highly they will come out to take away any of your camping/travel money for going by a scale. but next time i see an illinois state cop at work, i will ask him what their general opinion is. will post finding.

I have contacted MD as well since I travel routinely through there. The main contact on the page, Debbie Bowden at dbowden1@mdot.state.md.us, and I received the same answer. Does not matter if you are commercial, private, recreational, green or blue. If you weigh more that 5 tons, you are required to stop. End of story. Don't pass go, don't collect $200.
Take it for what you want. Some people only hear what they want.

I will admit (again)- I've never stopped. But, like I said before- if I get pulled over for it, I don't have a leg to stand on.

I may need to "re-think" this.
To be fair, I have NEVER seen an RV in that line.
I HAVE seen lots of RV's drive right past (including me) in the 4 years I have been towing.

I'd be willing to hang my hat that in most states, if the sign reads "all trucks", you're *supposed* to pull in but as was mentioned before- you'll be regard as "in the way" by the troopers and truckers alike.

Here's my take .
As a truck driver full time in the past and as part of my many duties now, unless your a permitted over sive or over weight otr truck and trailer the dot or weight governing official knows what your truck and trailer should weight. 80, 000 lbs or less.
They also know what your truck and trailer should weight by axle.
Now when us rv towing individuals pull a unit through the scale they have no idea what your specific vehicle and trailer requirements are without pulling each individual unit around back to check the stickers and capacities.
