Winterize

I had hoped to get at least one more weekend trip this year, but the weather (and DW) said different. Cold weather coming this weekend with low temps in the 20’s, so I drained and blew out the water lines, and drained the fresh tank and water heater.

But I left the batteries in place with the on-board charger plugged in. I didn’t cover it or move it out of the driveway. And I didn’t use the pink anti-freeze yet. I still have (some) hope.

Tonight is the 120v electrical wiring. I'm a little nervous but I have a friend baby sitting me while I do it.
Welp, as usual- I’m super thankful for friends. I asked my buddy to come babysit me while I approached the tasks of:

- wiring the Xantrex auto transfer switches
- unwiring the existing converter
- wiring in the new 20amp outlet in its place

He ended up taking over most of the work as I’m clearly a monkey with thumbs. We got it all done.

I still need to actually connect the new converter to the batteries. I have 2 awg cables here to connect it up. We tested the 20amp outlet out with an outlet tester and turns out I had the hot and neutral backwards to the outlet.

But, making progress!

  4. Install Xantrex 15amp automatic transfer switches to 2 circuit breakers
  5. Run extension cords from inverter to above automatic transfer switches
  6. Paint awning pole brackets
  7. Install awning pole brackets
  8. Change oil in generator
  9. Install replacement taillights
  10. Install cell booster antenna + antenna

I'm going to try and accomplish most of that by the end of the weekend in preparation for boondocking at the Balloon Fiesta for the next 2 weeks.
I finished up my inverter project - I got the extension cords fished into the battery compartment and plugged into the inverter. I closed the underbelly back up (which meant more time on my back in the gravel!).

I also ran the remote on/off switch for the inverter to just inside the door.

I finished up my converter project - I got the converter connected to the battery bank. The negative went to the new bus bar and the positive went to the battery at the opposite end of the bank. At some point in the future, I'll want to introduce a new positive bus bar but that's a project for another time. And lastly, I plugged the converter in. I was seeing 70amps charge to the batteries which should greatly decrease our generator runtime (previously I was only seeing 30-40amps even with pushing the charge wizard button).

I also sanitized the water system. Momma's mentioned that the hot water is a bit smelly. I haven't actually noticed, but (shrug). While I had everything out, I went ahead and sanitized my Aqua Tank 2 water bladder which will get used during the Balloon Fiesta.

Getting ready for another camping trip and noticed a gap between the front storage bin and front frame of the camper. Upon further inspection found that the screws had worked loose. Removed the factory screws and installed larger stainless steel screws that hopefully will hold the storage bin to the frame better. It pays to always check over your camper before and during every trip.

Well, we traded in the Shamrock for a new SOB Grand Design Imagine 2850mk. We hope this will be our full time camper as we hope to be on the road fulltiming beginning Octoberish of next year(2020).
I am going to miss the great times we had at the rallies and the wonderful FROGS we have met. I will continue to read this great forum.

Today I was going to continue to wash it. I spread that task over two or three days. I climbed up on top to look over the roof and seals and seams. And saw the vent covers were actually falling apart. So instead of washing I replaced all three vent covers. Last week I had Goodyear tires put on and took the time to repack bearings and change seals. What should have been a solid 4 or 5 hour job, I skillfully and masterfully turned it into a 10 hour job.

Got parked and setup my Genturi for the first time. Pretty slick. After a couple hours of run time, it still wasn’t too hot to touch.

I did have to add a second set of bungees at the roofline to keep the whole thing secure.

Congrats. We enjoy our GD Imagine. If you haven’t already, join the GD Imagine Facebook page. I’m still on this forum now and again from the days of my former Forest River camper.

Appears Thetford makes them. Couldn't find any Dometics, though.

Thetford made this one. Easy install took me about an hour. You need to get a water fill extension. My fill was tight the way it was installed. I used a 6" water pump bypass with a double male adapter on one end.

Nothing big, just a brake adjustment. We took a trip over the weekend and I didn't think the trailer brakes were performing up to par. Realized it had been about 3k miles and that it was time.

Sure enough, got the first wheel off the ground and really no drag on the drum whatsoever. Same for the other 3. Got those adjusted, will see how it feels on the next trip in a couple of weeks.

Do you have any links/explanation for testing and adjustments?

After watching Mike Sokol's generator video, I was reminded to make a ground/neutral bonded plug for my new small inverter generator. Otherwise, my PI EMS won't pass power when it detects an open ground. Had a spare Pass & Seymour plug in my electrical stash. 12AWG wire 2" long. Now my Honda EU2000i can power my TT.
