Wow - what an improvement!!

Today when dropping off the trailer I was able to make a wide u-turn and get into position to back into my storage place while I waited for the mgr to help. He only had me pull forward once and within a minute or two my trailer was parked in its space. This is a good record for me because it usually takes about 30 minutes or 1/4 of a tank of gas plus pulling forward a zillion times to get it backed in.

When I was at the cg I felt ready to back into a site. Next time I stay there I will get that site I've been eyeing for a while.

I am glad you don't park next to me then.
Just kidding. Practice makes perfect.

Haha
Actually it was harder to get it in to my space when the other spaces next to mine were empty. Now I can see my space because it's only the open one

I forgot to say that using mirrors that I could see with helped a lot too.

I heard that 5th wheels are easier but must say that the one in your picture is very big...

Not harder or easier for me, just different. They don't react as fast.

I always hate the seasonal refresher. The first time you back the trailer in after 5 months is always good for a laugh.

Can't imagine waiting 5 months to get away from it all.

Life in the great white north(western Canada). Depending on weather winterizing in the second week of of October. De-winterizing hopefully last week of April or first week in May. Most of the campgrounds don't turn the water on till the second or third week of May.

I forget that some places do have seasons, unlike here in California. Bet you get that pretty color turning of the leaves in the fall too.

I know the feeling of backing up very well, with a 5er you have so many more things to watch. Like the cab of your truck and of course all of the other things. Also it seems like every time lately I go to the cg, back in from the left obstructing my view of the hook ups so the dw has to help me a bunch. Also don't help when you are already nervous and the cg kids are running behind you riding bike's on your site where your trying to back.Oh and don't forget the couple across from you watching your every move, and my first couple times they even had time to cook dinner eat it and do the dish's.

After growing up with a dad that was a otr truckdriver and watching him back a trailer into places that you would think a trailer wouldnt fit. then i follwing in his footsteps for over 20 years. The best advice i received in the beginning always try not to back up in from your blind side (passenger side) and you dont have to turn the steering wheel as much as you think to move the trailer. just remember nobody was born knowing how to do it. you learn as you go and sometimes even the highly skilled vetrans have an off day.

I will keep that advice in mind - Thanks!

Yay!

I gotta say, I am always impressed with people even pulling a trailer, never mind backing one into a spot! Unfortunately, I am one of those gals that can barely back a car out of a parking spot!

Good to hear that we aren't the only ones that have issues with backing-in our camper. I grew up with a dad that could park one anywhere, so I think everyone should be able to do it. Doesn't work that way. My bf and I have had campers for about 10 years - some tiny ones and moved up to a 23 ft. Now, back to a smaller one - an A-frame. He has always had trouble backing them up. One of the campgrounds we go to - the mgr just comes up and either backs it in for him or helps us. We try to get pull-through sites but that isn't always possible. We can eventually get it parked - sometimes it takes a while and it can get frustrating. But, we just keep at it. And once you finally get it parked and set up, it is worth all the backing-up frustration.

I purchased walkie-talkies and have my wife get out & tell me how far back into the campsite I can go before the stabilizers go off the pad. Saves me from jumping out several times. I always back slow & wave people by if being followed by others before backing in.
I also have my wife sit in our boat(with walkie-talkies) when backing up to see if I'm lined up with the boat launch ramp or if someone is running behind me when backing up(kids). I own a pontoon boat (21') and a small fishing boat (17') and it seems the smaller the trailer, the harder it is to back straight back(like boat ramps). I can see the end of the travel trailer alot easier and get lined up with the edge of the campsite.
Oh, and I too have had alot of observers staring at my backing skills into campground sites since we have to wait until we get off work to hitch up & go. My wife will say well, you've got alot of people watching....nothing like alittle pressure not to goof-up and act like a first time beginner!
