Your 5th wheel's overhang height...
How high off of the ground does the overhang of your 5er sit from the ground, when level?
The overhang on our 1999 wildwood sits at only 57".
With the ongoing dilemma of new trucks with their tall bed rail heights in relationship to the clearance of the 5th wheel overhangs, I'm just wondering what that measurement is on the newer, taller campers.
Our camper has adequate clearance with our 2WD Ram, but we just got another Ram (4WD) and I'm going to have to modify the camper for this to work...
I work with someone who has had a 5er sitting on a campsite for many years. He is going to go retrieve it and bring it home.
So, he just bought a beautiful new F350 Powerstroke ( Lariat package). The top of the bedrails measure 61".
Curious to see how that pans out...

I have a 2018 Cardinal 3825 FL and I was very pleased that the hitch hight on my 2019 F350, 4wd,CC, diesel long bed is at the perfect hight, level. I had worried.

I'm interested in the overhang measurement from the ground. Just curious as to how tall that open space is on some of these campers are.
I'm wondering if any exceed 62".

BEFORE I purchased my 2017 GMC Duramax Dually, the first thing I did was to measure the height of the bedrails to see how much they differed from my 2008 GMC 2500.....I told the salesman that was the first potential show-stopper......surprisingly, they were almost the same...the dually was like a 0.25" higher.

I have a 2015 GMC 2500 and the rail clearance at level is about 5" to my 2016 Wildcat 5er. I've been shopping for the new 2020 version and the bed rails are lower. GM widened the bed to keep cuft capacity the same. Unfortunate for me the 2500 double cab is now 14" longer and won't fit in my garage.

We had a Surveyor 5er with an overhang height of 58". We bought an F250 to replace the F150 that we had used for towing the 5er (different story). The F250 is 60" to the top of the bed rails. Upon hooking the new truck to the Surveyor, it was clear that the combination was not going to work. There was very little clearance at the rear bumper and the 5er was WAY high in the front. 60" plus 7" clearance against the 58" of the 5er.
We wound up trading the Surveyor for a Wildcat that has an overhang clearance of 61". With 7" of bed rail clearance, even this 5er sits a little high in the front.
A little math. 60" bed rail plus 7" clearance is 67". Given the trailer is 61"; the trailer would be about 6" high in the front (67" -61"). BUT, the truck sags about 3" with the weight of the pin. So, the 5er is only about 3" high in front (6" - 3"). That seems to work just fine. Visually it looks nearly level as that 3" is spread over about 18' to the 5er axles. So the "angle" is 1" per 6'.
We have towed about 17K miles with this setup now and it is extremely stable.

Thank you! These are the numbers that I was looking for...the overhang height, bed sag height, etc.
Mostly curious what will be the tallest overhang measurement is that gets posted.
