A Month On The Road

Loading the Lexi and toad for our big trip this year. Leaving day after Labor day from Va. Heading west thru WV, KY, IN, Mo, into Ks. Then north thru Ne, and into SD.
Been following all your threads about what to see/do in SD, and since we'll be there 10 days or so, plan to see alot. Also been following threads about the UP, Mack Island, routs along the lakes, ect ect.
North into ND, then east thru Minn, Wi, and into Mich UP. South thru Mich, and into In. No planned stops, everything o n the fly, and planning on only running around 250 miles a day as we want to "stop and smell the roses" along the way.
Plan on stopping near Elkhart to go to Bradd & Hall to look at/buy some real nice captains chairs for the Lexi.
Then work our way home. Been planning for this for awhile. Will be lurking on the site while on the road to see what's going on.

Week on road so far. First time we have been west of the Mississippi River. Have always camped/traveled along the east coast.
Heading west thru Ill, Ind, Mo and into Kansas. Have always heard about the Kansas prairie's and flat landscape, but we had to see it to understand. Miles and miles of openness and flatness. But, now I can see why that entire area is called America's Breadbasket. And into Nebraska and all the cattle ranches.
Beautiful country, And to understand how big our USA is, you just have to drive it, especially via the back roads.
Up to So Dakota tomorrow to Hill City/Rafter J Bar for a week to do all the touristy things.

At Rafter J Bar. As many have posted, this is a top notch campground. Clean, well maintained, and staff is great. Upgraded us to a nice pull thru from a back in when they had a cancellation, no extra.
Did Hill City and Keystone yesterday, and hit Mt Rushmore today. Not the off season yet, lots of people, but not crowded at all. No lines for anything.
ChooChoo trip tomorrow. Crazy Horse on Sat. morning and then on to Deadwood. Sunday thru Custer and Needles.
Leaving Tuesday morn to Devils Tower for two days. Then working our way north east toward Michigan UP.
Beautiful country, beautiful sceanery.
