Average daily distance on the road with an RV

We try to limit our travel day to 6 hours total. We stop after the first hour for a potty break then around noon for a picnic sandwich. On to our destination which I plan out in advance. Usually 65-66 mph with the cruise set. No more than 300 miles.

Keeping a safe distance and driving Defensively is also important. Thanks for your concern.

In my opinion.... 200 miles max. If you are old , like me, with a fav mutt, one of you needs to pee in the next 45 minutes. I say stop, check stuff out and miraculously, 200 miles have passed.

We just returned from doing a 20 day trip from Seattle to WA, DC & NYC. We normally like to keep our driving days to about 500 miles max but we were in a hurry so did about ten 600-700 mile days. Five out and five back. Wouldn't suggest it if not necessary. Definately not the relaxing trip I was hoping for.

Early bird solo traveling

Midweek I leave at 7 am and stop at 1 pm at a campground for a night. 250 mile hopscotch for a day or two then two to four days at a park for a break. Weekends are crowded and less commuter traffic so that’s the time to hit the interstate and roll some miles and snooze at Walmart or rest stops when needed. I stop every two hours for a stretch rest areas alternate with half tank $20 gas stops. Paying cash these days after having two credit cards compromised. Works for me.

It varies greatly for us - we have gone as little as 150 miles in one day (stopping to do a LOT of sight-seeing) and frequently we come home from our favorite coastal town in one day which is about 420 miles and 8 hours for us.

Being retired has it's benefits - if we get tired...we stop. If we're good-to-go...then we GO!

My family and I have done three long trips over the past few years. Two from Virginia to Yellowstone and one from Virginia to Grand Canyon. One of the trips to Yellowstone was in a Class C while towing a Jeep and the other two were in a Class A towing the same Jeep. Although distance is definitely something to consider, we generally plan our drives around time. We usually shoot for 8 hours (max) and plan our stops around this interval. I would love to get to my destination as quickly as possible but do not enjoy being worn out at the end of the day. To make the longer trip more enjoyable, we also plan the drive as if it is part of the vacation and plan things in the areas where we plan on stopping. Who says the drive can't also be part of the adventure?

When we travel and not in a hurry, we max out around 300-350 miles but most of the time 200-250. We only run at about 60-62 get our best MPG at that speed. If we need to get somewhere the skies the limit. I've taken off at 03:30 and driven till mid afternoon many times. By taking off that early, I can get the first two tanks of gas under my belt with minimal down time. That will get me 350-400 miles then we stop for a much needed food and rest break. Then I'm good for another 200 miles easy.

We have a Flagstaff TT 27RLWS. When we travel and not in a hurry, we max out around 300-350 miles but most of the time 200-250. Most of the time we run at about 60-62 MPH we get our best MPG at that speed. If we need to get somewhere the skies the limit, we never exceed 65 MPH, so we make time by shortening our stop time. I've taken off at 03:30 and driven till mid afternoon many times. By taking off that early, I can get the first two tanks of gas under my belt with minimal down time. That will get me 350-400 miles then we stop for a much needed food and rest break. Then I'm good for another 200 miles easy.

I can go around 400 miles between fuel stops so I plan between 300 and 400 miles between campgrounds. If the day ends up being shorter then no problem. I am retired and in no big hurry!

275 miles is my limit and I would prefer to keep it around 200. Camp breakdown and new camp setup adds additional time to the day. No big hurry on our part.

We can set up pretty easily. It's the next morning that I don't understand. It takes us a long time to get "out of there".

That's us! We have yet to depart from anywhere by the official checkout time!

I like to tell myself that we won't do more than 6-8 hours of driving but I always plan our stops and sometimes finding a campground with good reviews or any campground at all means driving a little further. If its a route I'm familiar with and I know what to expect in terms of traffic I will adjust my goals accordingly.

I'll also add that we will try to time things so that we arrive as close to check-in time as possible at our destination which sometimes means driving further on the first day. On our recent trip to OBX we left our home in ohio around 7:30 AM and had a reservation in Wilson, NC. It was 570 miles of driving on the first day but that allowed us to take our time in the morning and arrive at Camp Hatteras just after 1:00 PM.
