Best App or RV GPS

Very curious what people use for general travel directions... looking to change from a TT to a much larger 5th wheel so feel this is something I need to care about a lot more. Do people use a phone app OR have people bought a specific RV GPS? Any help is appreciated!

I use two devices.

1) Google map app on my kina smart phone.

2) A new Rand McNally Road Atlas.

One talks to me the other one does not require constant recharging....

As AquaMan said you'll find this discussion quite a bit here and elsewhere. As a child of the fifties I still have an afinity for paper and always have a Delorme state map with us. Don't get me wrong tho I have multiple apps on our android and a dash top GPS along with the in dash radio/gps. I just feel better looking at a big paper display I can mark up

We use a Garmin RV 760LMT. It's a great tool you should look into it. Although it isn't cheap.

App... Co-Pilot... $10 bucks is superior to Google maps because you don't rely on cell data...maps are loaded to the phone or tablet permnently. You are never out of range. Also, you can store you height so you don't get routed through low clearance etc.

GPS...Garmin 760LMT ... like erving says...at about $350...it better be good and it is.

For trip planning on PC...the Good Sam trip planner is excellent on line at their site. It interfaces with the Camping World GPS's but is useful even if you can't download everything to your own GPS.

We use the Rand McNally RV GPS we bought at Camping World. I will pre-plan the trip using the Good Sam Trip planner and upload it into the GPS. I also carry paper maps from AAA and a road atlas. The screen on the GPS is large (about 7" diagonally), but sometimes I like to see a larger area. That is where the paper maps are great. The Rand McNally allows you to input the height of your RV to route you around any low bridges.

Prior to starting out, I like to plan stops using both the "Next Exit" book, And MyPilot app.
Know the distance before refueling, use both of thes to plan fuel stops. There is an app "Last Exit" as well, but still prefer the book. Add notes to the margin and the mileage is also helpful.

I agree. Love the 7 inch screen and how it talks to you. You enter the size of your unit and it figures out your route for you taking the size of your unit into consideration, such as length and height.

I tell it where I want to go, then check the route for the area 5 to 6 hours from where I left from. I can then do a search for CG or free parking in that area. It has features I haven't figured out yet but the more I learn the more I like it.

We also use the 760LMT best money I have ever spent so far.
Took it in a six state trip last year and never once did it out me under a low bridge.

GPS

I purchased a Good Sam Magellan GPS a few years ago and have stopped using it. Even though it is set for the height of my 5th wheel, it has directed me towards low bridges. When using the campground listings in it's POI directory it has taken me to very wrong locations, and it seems to be somewhat vindictive when I don't follow directions--sending me south on an interstate to the next exit, then back up a parallel road to my starting point.

I have a Tom Tom GPS I use in my car and find that adequate when towing my fiver, and we've been coast-to-coast and lots of roads in-between 6 times without incident. Just keep your eyes open for those low clearance signs.
