Agreed!
When we visited relatives in Alamogordo, they took us to a Mexican place in Las Cruces. i don't remember the name but it was by far the best Mexican food I've ever eaten.

In Dandridge, TN is a gem of a place called Angelos At The Point.
Highly recommended.

In Monroeville, PA is another gem called Gateway Grill.

One of the best and unique restaurants is the Black Rock Bar and Grill. You order your steak they bring out a flat square lava rock heated to 850 degrees and you cook your own steak on it. The original restaurant is in Howell, MI but have them in Tampa and Orlando FL. Later RJD

Over the years with all my travels. I have never gone wrong with looking for places where Utitility workers eat. Generally good, plenty and reasonable price.

Two Sisters Cafe, Babb Mt. This is located just outside of Many Glacier Campground in Glacier NP. Best huckleberry pie with huckleberry ice cream.

If you are ever around Port St Joe or Apalachicola, FL, then seek out Indian Pass Raw Bar, a rustic place, but only if you don't mind sitting on plastic resin chairs, 8 foot long white resin tables, and using paper towel rolls for napkins... oh yes and serving yourself with boxes of saltines and open cases of a dozen kinds of hot sauces available a couple of steps away.

Great Apalach Bay oysters, made anyway you like them, shrimp, steamed crab legs, bay scallops, and other fresh seafood is served. Draft beer and almost any kind of canned or bottled beverage you want is displayed in a huge glass door cooler.

I understand hurricane Michael in Oct 2018 flooded the place, but I hear it is now open again, or at least very close to being open. I am going to go there in a couple of weeks and see for myself.

It is between Port St. Joe and Apalachicola on Rt 30A.

Out in the middle of nowhere Utah on Hwy89 is the town of Circleville, UT and the Circleville RV park and Kountry Store. We had the best and least expensive breakfast there last summer.

Back in the 1970's at the four corners over by the lava beds in Carrizozo NM there was this little hole in the wall restaurant run by a native woman who made the best sopapillas served with honey on the side to drizzle. Wonder if is still there?

Other great places around the country is the Sunday brunch buffet at Aunt Catfish in Port Orange, FL (get there early or you will be waiting as the line forms early) and the lobster roll at Mt Battie's take out in Camden ME. When passing through Farmington NH don't miss the breakfast at the Farmer's diner. One of the best I've had anywhere!

Best ever

If you're in the area of Alamorgodo, NM you should try to stop in Cloud Croft, NM for the best ever BBQ beef brisket, ribs, sausage at Mad Jacks. Mad Jacks owner and master chef is top notch. Cloud Croft is a quaint little town with great shopping and other activities. If you're into hiking and/or biking there are several great trails close by. Also choose by is the sun spot solar activity research center where you can do self guided tours. The only drawback is it's location, 9000+ ft. so the drive is up or go down the mountain road to Alamorgordo, which also has numerous activities to visit.

Real "Off the Beaten Path"

If you want "off the beaten path" try The Old Country Store at Lorman, Mississippi. It is close to where Road 552 crosses US 61 just east of the Natchez Trace. Best fried chicken I know of anywhere. It is also a resturant experience you will not forget just for the setting. One of a kind. Just say'n.

One additional entry, the Hilltop Restaurant in L' Anse MI. Absolutely AWESOME cinnamon rolls. I know folks who while visiting Mackinaw and then drive up just to get a supply. Good place to eat in general too.

Wilson, NC, check out Parker's BBQ for some very genuine, no frills eastern Carolina style whole hog BBQ and fried chicken. Hush puppies are great too. Only about 10 to 15 minutes off of 95, easy access for trailers and large rigs. Sunday afternoon can be busy with the after church crowd but the service is lightning quick and quite a throwback with the paper hats and white aprons. I always make it a point to get there on any 95 trip through NC. Also, check out whirligig park nearby for some fun pictures.

Cafe Acadiana in Silverhill Alabama near Gulf Shores and Mobile area. Great cajun food. Shrimp Po Boy is my favorite. It is a little out of the way but well worth the trip if you are in the area.

When my late wife and I were traveling we liked to hit the road early. We'd pull into a convenient town for breakfast then drive down the main street until we found the greatest number of cars parked around a restaurant.

Never failed us. The "locals" knew where the best food was. Breakfast was our favorite meal.
