Camp or Park host

Has anyone ever been a camp host or a park host at a campground? How was the job and did you have much free time for local exploring? We are thinking of doing the camp host thing this summer but have to find a campground first. Would appreciate any comment. Thanks!!!

We have just returned from Myrtle Beach State Park as camp hosts. We were contacted the middle of July to help out since one of the camp hosts were unable to work. Our work consisted of 2.5 hrs. per day each for husband and wife. It was a great experience working with 5 other couples. We checked in campers who had reservations and also cleaned up trash when campers left their campsites. On our days off we toured the area and spent a lot of time at the beach. If anyone gets the opportunity to do this, please post your experiences and we will compare notes.

Sounds like you had a good time.
I wouldn't mine trying that, when I get the time. Maybe when I retire.

Might be fun, though a few we've seen hosting large caravans seemed pretty harried by the end of day one.

Camp Host

Several summers ago, Dutch & I were part of a 5 couple team at a campground in Montana. We worked 3 days on and 12 off. The days on were full but nothing we couldn't handle. The 12 days off allowed us to relax and explore but with a 27 hole golf course next door, you know where we spent our "off" time. We did not receive any monetary payment just our site with beautiful orchard and mountain views every day. Diana

That sounds awesome! And thanks for posting!

BTW, I will be working on the rear stabilizers this weekend pending any other emergencies. I think I will be welding a 1 ½" angle iron cross member in. I’ll keep you updated.

Guess what? Yes, we are headed back to the beach for the winter. We have been invited to came back and work as long as they need us. Two other couples will be there for the winter as well. The weather has been very mild this fall so far and the campground is still full on weekends. Had to come home to take care of some business, so we will head back soon. What a way to spend the winter on the beach and all free!!!
