Can anyone recommend a campground in the Outer Banks?

Looking to go to the Outer Banks in NC with the wife and kids in Early June. Can anyone recommend a nice campground thats walking distance from the beach, and reasonably priced? They seem to vary from $150 to $50 and all of them have mixed reviews.

I realize that with this sort of camping I'm going to have zero privacy. Just want a crash pad, so the wife and girls can spend a week at the beach.

Thanks!

campgroundreviews.com for visiting anywhere you have never been. The reviews are accurate it has links to the park's website, what the reviewer paid for the campsite, etc.

Really, it is a very good site for checking the sites in a new area.

No, I am not an employee and I don't get referral fees!

We like Ocean Waves. Small and dinky but very well kept with its own beach access. Probably the cheapest also.

Ocean Waves or Camp Hatteras both are good. Oceans waves is much smaller and a little less expensive. I have stayed at both and you cannot go wrong with either. Walk across the dunes and your at the ocean. I would not camp in Nags head, take the extra drive to Cape Hatteras, you will enjoy it.

We were at Camp Hatteras over Labor Day week last year and really enjoyed it. We had an oceanfront site but did not really need it. We are going back there this summer so they have our recommendation.

We stayed at Ocracoke national seashore campground last June... $20 a night and a short walk over the dune to the beach, but little else... If you're not into boondocking this won't work.
We'll be staying in Frisco woods this June... Won't know until we get there how good/bad it is but reviews seem ok

We stayed at Camp Hatteras in October and would highly recommend it. Easy access to the beach and the Sound.
