Caravan to Alaska in 2018

OK Folks as promised here is the thread. We retire in 2017 and the first thing on our bucket list is a 4-6 month trip to Alaska.

Looking to Leave AL in March 2018 - Mosey through TX, NM, UT, CO, WY, SD, WY, and then enter Canada from ID in May-ish.

Who would like to plan with us? It would be nice to have at least 3-6 others to make the trip (Safety in numbers!)

No commitments at this point, let's just plan and discuss!!

Tempting. Let's talk about this in Gadsden. We have friends with a Berkshire who have also talked about going to Alaska. We'll see them over the 4th so I will get their feeling about it.

I wish but we just can't get that kind of time off from work and we are too young to retire

I've been playing around with that idea for a year or two. Like the start from AL as we spend the winter in FL. I'd rethink Canada in May-ish and change it to June-ish though, unless you like cold weather camping.

Never too soon to plan (sorry you can't come along Asquared -- really! Having a RN along could prove very handy)

Our initial thoughts are starting out in AL as well and then making leisurely progress (hopefully picking up rigs along the way) to rendezvous in either Coeur d'Alene, ID or Minot, ND with folks coming from other points of the compass. Where we would meet up would largely depend on how many were caravanning (and where they were coming from.)

A May start time (with a Late May-Early June border crossing to Dawson's Creek) was our initial thoughts. Only other timeframe we have discussed is a firm departure from Fairbanks in mid-late Sept (There is a decent chance to observe the northern Lights in Sept)

Finally, just so folks know, bee-lining it from Alabama to Fairbanks is just over 4,000 miles so this trip is not gonna happen over the course of a couple weeks

Count me in as a maybe. Just retired last month and interior Alaska is on my bucket list. I have cruised the inner waterways of Alaska and would love to see the rest.

Joining Up

This is a trip that I am interested in as well. We would be coming from the Seattle, WA., area so would probably meet up in Dawson Creek. Keep me in the loop.
