Hehe. I just read the end of one of Sherman's post that New York is a really big state. Funny to me. I'm born and raised in Texas. Now THAT'S big. Sorry, Just found it humorous for some reason. I'll shut up now.

Yes, the US Constitution has a 4th Amendment, and police can't just decide to stop you because you are driving down the road. Probable Cause is a tried and true legal concept that applies to all citizens.

Although I agree with you in concept, considering our government does not honor/follow the 2nd Amendment I have little faith they honor/follow the others.

Cops just make up reasons for probable cause. If a cop wants to pull you over, they will.

Try this website: gunlaws.com / Bloomfield Press. I can't vouch for its accuracy. There is also a book updated each year which details the laws in each state. Unfortunately I don't have the title right now. FYI, New Jersey has no reciprocity and there are constant news stories here about visitors who have been arrested for thinking their permits or licenses from other states will be accepted here.

Well then you made a very blanket statement about cops. Not all of us work that way. We're not idiots. We know there are those few out there that make it bad for all of us. Thus the predicament we're in of being targets for every lunatic with a gun.
I'm probably wasting my breath here.. oh well..

Please keep this thread on the OP question. There has been some valuable information provided here, however continuing to drift off the question and into political issues or emotional 2nd amendment issues will result in this thread being closed.

First you need to define gun - long guns are most always ok, the issue comes with handguns.

Saw your post with you stating that there were technical problems with our RV/Car Carry Document.
Can you point the problem/s out to me. I want to have the best info available.
I would appreciate any help you could give us. Best way to contact me is admins@handgunlaw.us

Thank you and Stay Safe,

We would like to go to VT and ME but our safety is always 1st. Traveling through MD, NJ, NY, etc being required means that will never happen. My NC permit is honored in 34 states and will honor those with our money.

I have a concealed carry permit and I live in Florida. I have visited every state in the lower 48 and I always have a gun in the RV. I only carry in the states that honor my carry permit. As far as the one comment about New York checking tags, that's a new one on me. I have traveled and stayed in a dozen different campgrounds in New York without a problem.

here are several sites that will provide you with the necessary information and gun laws by state.

Handgunlaw.us

https://www.nraila.org/articles/2015...transportation

There are many other sites and articles on gun laws and what to do.

should you decide to carry, take the time to learn those laws, No judge will accept the " I didn't know it was Illegal",,,, it is YOUR responsibility to know the laws of each state you travel in
Do you live in NY? I would guess not as most of this is bogus information.
Yes, if you have a long gun in the vehicle it must be unloaded. No, you don't have to he going hunting or anything else, you don't need to have any reason for it being there.
If you have a valid NYS PISTOL permit, you can have it in the vehicle and it can be loaded.
Yes NYS is rediculus, but the rules get blown way out of proportion by people that don't know them.

Vermont is awesome.

You could always swing on up 77 through Wytheville and 79 through WV into PA without ever having to smell MD. We'll honor your permit and money here in PA. Then just a leisurely drive across PA in a northeasterly direction with some really nice state parks right on the route for an overnight stop or two. Now all you have is a low profile, almost totally rural cruise through NY for about 180 miles from Sayre PA through Binghamton into Albany/Troy and hello VT. Once your in VT your good for Maine and NH too where your permit is honored.

Well this just got real...

Anyways, welcome, use your site all the time to get the scoop. While being in LE I am mostly exempted, I do not like to press my luck.

This is exactly why I said handgunlaw.us is the best source of info.

Mr Slider,
Thank you for the work you do. It helps keep me safe, and out of jail.

Isn't Vermont constitutional carry now? Even better. Maybe one day all states will be like this and reciprocity will be nationwide to carry (a constitutional right) just like driving is (a privilege, NOT a right btw).

I had always been told it was a big no for handguns and some longs guns are ok... But a thread some time ago had some with links saying it was ok under certain circumstances, some Canadians weighted in.. Some said it was ok, others said leave them how either was not ok.. Might need to call the Canadian authorities on that one.
