Deals Gap/Gatlinburg Area

We are planning a trip late July early August (skipping Sturgis this year) and I am looking for campground recommendations. Keep in mind that I have a 40 foot fifth wheel toy hauler. I'd like to stay somewhat close to this place CLIMB Works Mountain Biking in the Smoky Mountains and do the mountain bike trail and zip line. Most of our trip will be daily motorcycle rides in the mountains but I am not opposed to driving the truck to get to climbworks.

We are staying a week and need full hookups.

I'd check out the Townsend area, it would be half(ish) way between the place in Gatlinburg and Deals gap. It will also put you a few miles outside of the entrance to the mountains. Check out Big Meadow in Townsend to see if that might fit the bill for you.

We just stayed in the Gatlingburg area last week for Spring break. Stayed at Anchordown RV Resort for 9 days. The place is only 2 years old and is one of the nicest places I've ever stayed.

We will definitely go back many times.

Wow that is really nice! Just sent the link to my wife. We might just have to stay there. We will ride most days but if we choose not to that is a great place to just hang out.

I'll keep looking but I did find a KOA in Townsend that should be able to accommodate my size.

I like that the KOA is almost right in the middle of a big loop that we could ride the Harley on. Might have to really look at that one. KOA is very expensive for the dates I am looking for.

I just found Big Meadow campground. Little more reasonable rates than KOA.

I'll second what Helmsey said.

Not sure if it's in the area you want but we stayed at Up the Creek RV Camp. It was very close to everything going on in PF but yet still far enough away to have piece and quite. We stayed there in out TT last June.

We used Creekside near PF with our 39' 5th wheel and full size tractor to pull with with no problem but the site we had you would not be able to drop the ramp so unloading would be first. We could unload the Smart off the truck without a problem. Small place but very clean & nice.

For this trip I went with Anchor Down. I liked the spot and still gave us plenty of routes to take on the motorcycle. I also liked the pull through spots and they are all paved and should be pretty level.

Anchor down is absolutely gorgeous and you will not be disappointed. Just spent a week there in early April. It's only about 20 minutes to pigeon forge from there.

There is some great riding in the area besides the Dragon. I used to ride it before it became a tourist attraction. Check out some of the side roads in the Fontana Dam area while you are there.

Ride safe and don't try to race the sport bikes through Deal's Gap.

We live in N. Ga.. about an hour away from Tail of the Dragon. We call this "God's Country for motorcycling riding.

We will be there for a week so the plan is to ride a lot. We are doing this trip and skipping Sturgis this year. We typically put about a 1000 miles on the bike at Sturgis and we plan to do the same in that area. I am hoping the sport bikes won't be too bad. I don't try to keep up with them . I own a cruiser for a reason...to cruise
