Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives
Another member mentioned they are traveling all around the country checking out Diners, drive-ins and Dives along the way. Thought this would make a great thread to share.
We've been to one in Springfield, IL area. Charlie Parker's Diner. Home of the hugest pancakes on the planet. Hard to get skinny food here.

Charlie Parker's is also the "Home of the Horseshoe". Toast, meat of choice, and frenchfries piled on top with cheese sauce over the top. This is definately NOT "skinny food!!

When in Springfield, also stop by Cozy Dog on 6th Street, which was once part of Route 66. DON'T order a corn dog. They get offended. It's a Cozy Dog, and that's the only place to get one.

There is a little restaurant at US 54 and MO 52, near Eldon, MO called the Silver Dollar. 1also serves a "Horseshoe" just like the one you described. Even the small version was too much for this guy to finish...

That must be an acquired taste, or do you smother them in some kind of sauce?

B, that funnel and hose is getting closer. Don't consider that playing with food, just making it delicious!

P.S. we barely had enough food to eat, sure as the devil didn't play with it. What ever was on the table, we ate it and was thankful we had it. Ate things I won't touch now.

On the way to the beaches of SC, we stopped at this small town diner/dive, although probably not one of the official ones from the TV show. It's in Marion, SC. You see the owner/cook taking a break out front with her friend. If you need tennis shoes on the way, they sell them inside also.
Awesome down home southern cooking!!!! Full dinner with meat and 2 sides, corn fritter, dessert and a drink for about $7.00. Look for the emily's cafe sign on a post, but it is actually "Becka's Place" now for the last few years. Taking down Emily's sign just not on the priority list.
It's a hoot of a place with awesome food!!!
