Disney's Fort Wilderness
Hi All! We are just back from visiting Disney. We stayed in their campground- Fort Wilderness. It was awesome! Highly recommended if in the area and it was only $10 more than the KOA nearby!
The sites are all back-in and they do vary in size. There is mostly foliage to separate the sites. The sites are kept very clean and are leaf-blown and the pole is sanitized between campers.
The facilities are well maintained and spotless clean (at least for the week we were there) and it was a full campground. There are two pools. We only visited one but it was very nice. There was also a separate wading pool for the littles and hot spa. There are convenience stores and restaurants on site.
For entertainment, each night there is a fireworks display and an electrical pageant (basically a float parade) on/over the lake. There is also a group campfire and sing along with Chip and Dale.
The campground is dog friendly and there is an awesome dog park on site. There are also dog friendly walking trails.

For length estimation purposes: Our TT is 29 feet long. The vehicles are not hitched up and there is more than enough room to walk between them.

We've been there twice (once for an overnight and once for a week) and enjoyed it both times. I have a trip scheduled for a week in February.
It's the cost that kills me. $120-$135/night for the times that I've been there.

Especially considering my monthly budget while fulltiming is to average $50/night for sites. That means this "vacation" week is almost 3x that.
BUT- still cheaper than Key West which was $199/night for my family of 4 plus 2 extra adults.

Guess that means more nights at "Fort Wal Mart"!

To be honest, I just sort of picked a random number for nightly costs. Right now, with a week at the Fort back in June, I'm at $43/night. If I move that to our "vacation" budget, my nightly average falls to $35/night. The next 2 weeks will help as we are at a Thousand Trails park ($0 to $3/night) in Las Vegas.
My budget at $50/night is still significantly cheaper than my house payment (mortgage, escrowed taxes, home owners insurance, and HOA). In fact, I have a good bit of wiggle room before hitting that. BUT, our entertainment budget has gone way up with wanting to do things in each location. That touristy crap adds up!
We do Fort Walmart purely for convenience of stopping and sleeping but don't plan on it outside of that. I'd stay at more TT parks if they were in more places. The dues for the year are already paid (and I have them calculated into my nightly average).
We have hit a couple of hotels now- their costs are surprising as I get used to camping. Crap hole Clarion hotel in Colorado Springs was $85/night and we had to buy dinner out due to no kitchen. Not to mention, sharing a bedroom with the kids. Even the crap hole Elkhart hotel was something near $80/night.

Holy Goodness! It was $69 per night for the premium site. I don't think I'd pony up $120!

$120 was for the partial or full hookup. The premium is/was $135!

We did get a Florida Resident discount and a late summer special. I actually thought $69 was a lot but after we went I thought it was worth it. Our pups got to go with us so that was a deciding factor (of course, they charge $5/night extra for dogs).

We pull a 35' TTwith a 20' TV. Plenty of room for both in the site. Free transpotation all around the property. Depending on when you go depends on the price. We haven't paid more than $100 a night in a premium pet loop. By far the best campground I've stayed at in my 30 years of RVing.

We are counting down our trip to Ft Wilderness... Two more weeks. We are looking forward to it! So is the three year old.. She is getting more and more excited as we approach.

I'm so glad my brother has a full hook up site next to house in Cocoa Beach. Get to stay for free and only an hour away to Disney.

we too just got back from Fort Wilderness, arrived on Oct 4 and left on Oct 9. We were told our unit 42.5 5ver woukd fit in the basic spots upon arrival we quickly found that wasnt true, just no way i could turn the 350 enough without taking anything out, after abkut 30mins they upgraded us to a premium spit at no additional charge.
i will agree the park was in great shape and had ample activites at decent prices. we took the sea racer boats out for a ride and had a good time. staff was above par which made the experiance even better.

I'd like to spend some time on the coast in addition to TTO. I think we are going to do something along the lines of:
- LazyDays Tampa for a rally
- Fort Wilderness
- TTO
- Gulf or Atlantic coast
- Miami area
- Everglades
- Back up to TTO
- and then I'm not sure where
