I can certainly relate. I have not forgotten to fill up, but like others, I have found planned fuel stops to be unavailable (closed, construction, out of fuel, etc.) and have driven some long distances without services while consuming a gallon every 8 miles.

Because of those "long miles" I now have a TransferFlow 30-gallon refueling tank/toolbox combination. I can carry tools for repairs, recovery gear, fuel for my generators, and have plenty of fuel so that I don't have to drive any more of those white knuckle miles, scanning the horizon for what looks like a sign attached to a gas station.

great story and thanks for sharing - when I read doing 60 on the highway - was thinking the wind picked up and you either got blown off the road or the wind pushed you over like the Semi Tractor trailer that did from the high winds.

I have been very lucky not to get stuck without gas - my boss makes it a habit to run out just so he can see what his limits are - I think he is nuts LOL
