Epic Road Trips Across America

Taking a road trip is one of the favorite pastimes of the Americans. The country is huge and there are numerous beautiful spots and national parks and plenty of roads to cross. In fact, cross-country road trips are on the vacation to-do list of almost one-third of the American families. Taking beautiful road trips is really an awesome way to set our mind free and enjoy memorial moments. What is your most favorite road trip? Mine is Appalachian Trail!

You can drive across it in many places... Just not along it for too far!

Last summer, we took off from Massachusetts and headed west across SD heading for Yellowstone. Along the way we stopped at Mall of America, Badlands NP, Mt Rushmore, and Devil's Tower. After Yellowstone, we visited Tetons and stopped in Denver for a couple days to visit family before heading east once again.

Just over 2 weeks ago, we returned from a trip to Orlando for the 3rd year in a row. We also went to SW Kentucky last August to view and photograph the total solar eclipse.

Canyonland America

We just returned from a 15 day trip to Utah and Northern AZ. We boondocked at Lake Mead, and near Canyonlands, Arches, and Monument Valley. Then headed to Grand Canyon, where we woke up to 4-6 inches of SNOW at Grand Canyon Village! Then drove west along RT 66 and North to Zion and Bryce Canyon. Our final leg was through Idaho along Highway 93 up and over Lost Trail Pass to our home in western MT. It was a spectacular trip...no photos will ever do these parks justice! Our favorite RV Park was Willow Wind in Hurricane, Utah.

We've done a few. East and West. One year from Texas to CA and up across then back. Following that from Texas up to Yellowstone, then back through SD, ND and down back to Texas. Our last one Up to Chicago, across to NY down the east coast to the Keys then back to Texas. That was my favorite. We saw the Rolling Stones on the last US tour in Buffalo.

Just returned from a pilgrimage of sorts. Drove to El Paso, stayed 5 nights while I attended a meeting. Then drove west on I-10 through Tucson and Phoenix to Wickenburg where we stayed at Horspitality RV Park overnight (a great place, by the way, full of friendly folks and friendly staff). Then we went on to Pahrump via Las Vegas and the I-215 bypass, then up SH-160 over Mountain Springs Pass to Pahrump. We were in Pahrump for 8 days (attended Front Sight Firearm Training Academy, which is another story by itself), visiting old friends and neighbors that we haven't seen in many years. It snowed down to the alluvial fans one night (mid-April no less). On the last day of the school, we received word that my mother-in-law had passed away. So we went on to Odgen UT where we stayed 4 nights to attend the funeral, then headed home to Texas, which took 2 overnight stays an about 3 days on the road. Along the way, DW got sick. She had a virus with a high fever which finally broke 2 days after we got home. Went to work the day after we arrived home, only to be laid off. Wife's virus plus allergies turned into pneumonia, which she is recovering from now and getting better every day. Drove 3886 miles on our journey that proved to be more of an adventure than we bargained for.

we have done a couple - we are based in Maryland
1) Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, and Grand Tetons - two weeks and 4,500 miles
2) Garden of the Gods/Pikes Peak, Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Painted Desert/Petrified Forest, Meteor Crate, Canyon De Chyelle and home through the Smokey Mountains - three weeks and about 5,000 miles

Both were soooo awesome -

DW and I are embarking on a 2+-month long road trip with another couple to visit nearly all the great National Parks west of the Mississippi. Most of them we have visited before, but our friends have never seen them. We leave SoCal next week, and it is an exciting enterprise including: Joshua Tree, Grand Canyon, Petrified Forest, Durango, Great Sand Dunes, Rocky Mountain, Arches, Canyonlands, Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Glacier, Crater Lake, Lassen Volcanic, Yosemite, Sequoia and other natural wonders. We will post photos and RV park recommendations upon our return.

Epic Trip

We went from Oklahoma to South Dakota, visited Mt. Rushmore and the Badlands NP, and then headed west to Yellowstone. We tried to visit Devil's Tower, but couldn't get close--all the RV parking was taken up. Stayed at Fishing Bridge in Yellowstone for three days, then went north to Canada. Up through Banff and Jasper National Parks, then up to catch the Alaska Highway at Dawson Creek, BC. Turned south at Tok, Alaska, and went to Wasilla for a couple of days visiting family, then up to Denali and then Fairbanks. Back to Anchorage for a wedding then three days in Seward. Finally started heading home. Went down the Cassiar Highway in BC, then down through eastern Washington and over to Glacier National Park, then down through Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico and into Oklahoma through the panhandle. Six weeks and 11,500 miles in all. Epic trip, indeed. Blew out all four tires on the trailer, and replaced all of them and the pickup as well. Would we do it again? You bet!

I towed my 26' sob tt from Cherokee North Carolina to Shenandoah, VA. September. Beautiful drive. More recently I pulled my Rockwood fiver from Yellowstone to Montana by way of Beartooth scenic hwy. It was the most picturesque drive ever.(but I don't recommend pulling a large RV through there.)

Third trip out with our new Flagstaff, left TN drove to Denver, stayed three nights at Estes Park, drove through top of Rockies where there were roads were, caught horses playing in the snow, then to the Tetons, beautiful drive! Stayed 6 nights in Yellowstone, could have stayed more. On to Devils Tower for one night. On to Cody for three nights, then to MT Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer Park, lots of driving there. Through St Louis on home after 23 nights. Great second trip. First trip with boys, hit 9 National Parks in Colorado, a two week trip they still remember, mainly the fires and dry campin at Mesa Verde. Great memories. Hope to do another through Texas and southwest!
