Was it Newport for some fish tacos about a month ago and wanted to check out Newport Dunes but they wouldn't let us just drove through. That deterred me from wanting to stay there if I can't check the place out. But, if you want to do any beach camping in so Cal, you either have to be lucky to get a spot at Crystal Cove or pay the huge prices of Newport Dunes.

Don't forget the 13% tax on your daily fee.
I drove thru that resort a few years ago and the bottom line is location, location, location.

They're other campgrounds in So.Cal. that are more reasonable but you still pay $75 plus a night and get very little.

Even the military campgrounds on Camp Pendleton charge $40 plus a night.

It's all "supply and demand." If they can get enough idiots (er, people) willing to pay $479 a night, go for it!

Besides, they've got a 16 page Emergency Plan; they had to pay somebody to put that together!

http://www.newportdunes.com/wp-conte...ation-Plan.pdf

I blame it all on Proposition 19 back in the 1970's.

I feel about such places sorta like Groucho Marx did about exclusive clubs. "I wouldn't stoop so low to be a member of any club that would accept the likes of me".....
