First trip to CA

I need to be in Vegas for business and since we just celebrated our 30th anniversary an neither of us has seen the ocean we are going to rent a car and drive to the coast. We will be spending 2 days in Santa Barbara. To make the drive back to Vegas more relaxing we are going to stay in Barstow. We plan on driving up highway 1, not sure if Big Sur is too far for a day's drive.
Anyone have any "must see" places we should visit while we are there?

Big Sur is a nice place to visit. I have wonderful memories of camping with my brother & sister-in-law at Big Sur. Someday I hope to return there again. I'm in SoCal and we split the trip up into 2 days due to my brother's health.

Thanks, Terier. We were thinking of going for Big Sur but it may be too far for a day trip. I wish we had a few more days to spend there!
We are leaving Wednesday and I just checked the forecast, Las Vegas will be exactly 70 degrees warmer than it will be here in Minnesota!
