Gassing Up
How Does everyone with a large rig tell where you can get off the Interstate and get gas and get back on without a lot trouble. Gps doesn't work, has anybody tried google earth to look at exits and gas stations to make sure you can get in and back to the Interstate easy.

I only get fuel and only at truck stops, so it is easy for me to get in and out, with my rig i would not want to try to find gas with the trailer attached

Define "big rig".
I'm driving a full size PU pulling a 25' trailer and just take any exit with gas and
almost never have problems.
Look for the pump on the end rather than one in the middle of the row.

would be nice if there was some kind of rv map out there that showed rv friendly spots to pull of and fuel up. big rig is 3500hd dually pulling a 41' trilogy

That's kind of what I was getting at wouldn't it be nice if the gps would show these things.

I think most gas stations off the interstate are set up for cars not rigs that are 65ft long and burn gasoline

Big rig 33' trailer 20' truck 53' total and looking for bigger truck. Not much smaller than a semi and trailer.

There are truck stop guide books out there but it looks like you have a gasser. I used those truck stop guides back in my trucking days.
One draw back is that most truck stops and such have their gas pumps set up the same way a normal gas station does. They typically have 2 or 3 pumps in a row that makes it a challenge at times to get in and fuel up. The plus side is that they usually have more room to navigate in and out of.

I know I can turn it around with limited space, do it in my driveway all the time, but there isn't any other vehicles moving around and it takes some time. Was looking for an app for phone or new gps or even a book with this info.

When I plan a trip I try and locate the various truck stops that are on my route via internet. I then also use my GPS search engine if for some reason I need to get services. Had only one problem at a station, but still managed to get in and out with my rig.

Woodall's has a book called the next exit. It has fuel, motels, food etc. We stick to the larger exits typically and scope the station with the easy in and out.

I use Google Earth A LOT when planning our trips.
Gas and getting to the camp ground.
Didn't work one time at a WalMart, looked good but the entrance was narrow and the trees touched the mh on both sides.

Found 3 apps for phone that might help 1. My Pilot 2. Gas Buddy ( gives current prices and tells where stations are.) 3. Truck stop locator

I stay away from Flying J stations as they are the worst for gassers hauling big trailers and a PIA for canadians using CC to pay. But we have rarely had issues other than maybe blocking off access to half the pumps and when we are done if I need to back out DW just goes out back and flags traffic down so I can back out. Never been an issue other than that. We have ended up downtown in a few cities with the trailer and I figure if a semi can navigate the streets so can I.

I use Google Earth / Maps with street view to look at a view of the station to determine if I can negotiate getting into and out of the station.

since mine is diesel i usually try for the truck stops but a lot of the newer convenience stores have a few off set diesel pumps for big rigs to use. an rv map that shows where
we can fuel up would be great
