Depending on what type of campgrounds you like, you might check out McKinney Falls State Park and Austin Lone Star RV Resort in Austin, and Pecan Park Campground in San Marcos.

Look at Peach Country RV Park Stonewall TX Hill Country in Stonewall. It's west of Austin and between Fredericksburg and Johnson City. There's plenty of things to see and do around there. We stayed there 2 weeks in April.

Winter texas
San Marcos has few parks. Canyon trail on I35 is well kept and good owner with wifi and cable It is between San Marcos and new brsunfels. Pecan park is pretty but it can flood It is on the San Marcos River and we lost our rv in October 2013 when the park flooded. It flooded again memorial weekend this year. Excellent winter Texan park is Hill Country rv park in new braunfels just a little south of San Marcos. Lots of activities and great pools (indoor) rec halls, exercise rooms and laundries.

Fredericksburg!
We are currently at the KOA in Fredericksburg. The area has tons of great things to see. The campground is fairly close to town and also close to the wineries.
Great fishing, hiking, antiquing, sightseeing, bike riding, etc...
The campground has a ton of rules which can at first be off putting, but they are just up front with everything so no surprises.

DonCath25ds....I lived in San Marcos for 18 years and I would recommend the area. There are Corps parks in the area,,,,,,,Lake Georgetown north of Austin, and Canyon Lake((Potters Creek)), near New Braunfels. The winter rates are reasonable, but forget them if you're looking for FHU sites. There is a private park in Fentress,,,,,about 12 miles from San Marcos on Highway 80 heading towards Luling.....Liesure Resort,,,,,but I also was there on Halloween of 2013 when the river flooded and we had to evacuate. The Pecan Park one near Martindale just a couple miles outside San Marcos is nice too, but I wouldn't recommend it during the rainy season. The Memorial Day floods in Wimberley, which is the Blanco River left a lot of destruction and there are still a couple children missing. The Blanco River enpties into the San Marcos River just outside of San Marcos,,,,,and I saw the town flood in 1969 and also 1971. There is an rv park in New Braunfels pretty much under the Interstate bridge and several others to choose from. You'll love the area,,,,,San Antonio to the south with the Alamo and the Riverwalk and Austin to the north with lots of activity.

The area you are looking at is beautiful, but it gets down right cold in the winter. I would suggest you think about going further south in Jan-Feb for those months for sure. Look up Mission Bell RV park on the internet located in Mission Tx. There is a ton of things to do in the area, and we have spent a great deal of time in the pool some years it's that warm in Jan- Feb.

Sunset Point on lake LBJ is a really nice park just out of Marble Falls. Guadalupe River RV Park in Kerrville is a very popular Winter Texan park with lots of activities (you may already be too late to get in here but worth checking.) Also someone already has mentioned the KOA at Fredricksburg, but it is worth mentioning again. You will get some temps in the low to mid 20's in January in this part of Texas so be prepared, but they normally only last for a day or two at a time.

We would love too, but won't be retired yet. My sister in law goes to kingsland in the winter and we would like to be within an hour or so. We will be visiting her for a long weekend this winter and hope to find a place for jan. 2017. Thanks for all the suggestions.
