Helen, Georgia

Recently travelled through Helen, Georgia. North is the mountains and South is rolling hills with beautiful farms and such. I never heard of this area being so beautiful. I think they have been keeping it a secret. Out of the window was one picture then another. We hope to go back next summer and stay a while.

Anyone recommend a campground?

Couple of nice Georgia State Parks close by....Moccasin Creek a and Vogel.

At some point during every day you suddenly realize nothing else productive is going to happen the rest of that day. For me, it usually occurs around 9 am.

Check for a list. There are several just north of Helen or if you check around Cleveland there are a number of campgrounds. I haven't camped in that area so can't suggest the better places but check for comments. While in the area go to the Cabbage Patch factory in Cleveland and witness a Cabbage Patch doll being born. Kind of neat. Helen is an Alpine style tourist centered community. I asked where the natives came from in Germany and was told there were no Germans there, most people around there are Irish.

We camp several times a year just out side Helen. Called Yona camp ground not bad. Just a short drive into Helen and eat at a lot of great German Restaurants. Oktoberfest is a great time to visit. Later RJD

We love the north Georgia mountains and stay at Creekwood Resort. We go every year for Oktoberfest . Lots of waterfalls and state parks in the area. The northeast mountains of Georgia have some great wineries also.
