Hitting the road - Big Trip Planned

Wanted to say thanks to the forum frogs for being so helpful to us....I've never submitted a question/problem that I didn't get great advice and I've learned so much from reading the entries.

So...wanted to let everyone know that we are leaving the Atlanta area tomorrow and heading west to Yellowstone, then Glacier, the Canadian Rockies and Alaska. (and of course the return trip)

Plan/expect to be gone for 3-4 months and this forum will be our lifeline.

We've read many posts and made a lot of preparations and now it's time to execute our plan.

We are on day 7 of the same trip. Tonight in Interlochen, Michigan at 31 degrees and snow. Will be warmer by Monday.
We plan 4-5 weeks travel before crossing into Canada, then 4 more weeks to Alaska. Coming out at Vancouver, south to San Fransisco then east towards Kentucky.
Maybe we will meet up on the road somewhere. wdw0528 sent you a PM.
Travel safe

Whatever you do, outgoing or returning, do not miss the following: Arches NP; Canyonlands, NP; Zion, NP; Grand Teton, NP (Colter Bay); Mt. Rushmore, SD, and Devils Tower, WY; Rocky Mountain, NP, CO; KOA at Glacier West is our favorite RV Park at Glacier.

We have other favorite RV sites in the areas you will visit. Contact us if you need some recommendations.

We are leaving New Mexico next week for the U.P. for two weeks and then south to St Louis for a couple. From the posts I feel like we are running against traffic (swimming up stream). Have a safe trip.

Did that trip last year left on June 2 and returned Labour Day weekend. Went to the end of the Dalton Hwy at Prudoe Bay. Trip of a lifetime. Enjoy.

All are on the list Jakie-Boy, some for this trip and some maybe next year. Still uncertain of our path when returning. Thanks for the tips!

Sounds exciting! I'm also jealous! DW & I are leaving June 2nd for the upper peninsula MI! This will be our first gipsy tour with our rig. We have only travelled and stayed, never overnight and run. It will be an adventure. Enjoy your trip and be safe!

Have wonderful safe trips everyone. Enjoy the Canadian part of your adventures! My question - are you full timers and if not what arrangements do you make for your home during such a long absence? DH and I are never comfortable leaving the house empty for prolonged periods.

I'm very lucky, my neighbors next door are retired and home most of the time. The neighbors across the street pick up my mail and paper daily. But I'm never got over a month. I also depend on an alarm system.
Peace of mind makes for a great trip.

Hate to be a wet blanket......but we don't travel in the summer -- from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Waaaaaay too many people.....and dogs that just HAVE to do their thing under my bedroom window at 0500, while barking at every shadow.

Our big trips are following the leaf change down the major rivers in the fall..... haunting the Gulf Coast through the cold months....watching spring flowers bloom from Portland, through Saguaro blooms, to bluebonnets.

We are gone about six months a year. For us, it is the travel, not the destination.
(exceptions are when the trout are calling my name, two or more old guys are pickin' on a porch, or a grandkid is getting married.)

And the thought of snowbirding in some rabbit warren, getting orgasmic over shuffleboard, gives us the shivering willies.

The ideal is on some dusty back road, seeing a sign that says "live country music to-nite". We stop, have some Bar-B-Q, dance, throw down a LongNeck or two, sit in with the band, dance some more, and sleep in the RV in their parking lot.......then, next morning, check off some new bird finds at the marsh down the road, as we move out to see the world's largest ball of string in the next town.....

.....as always, individual mileage may vary.....

I will be boondocking only! Have had the same issues with dogs in campgrounds and generators, etc...I camp away from it all, much nicer.
