It sure is nice....
...that places like this still exist. In a barnyard in Ohio, this family sells their fresh produce using the honor system. Prices per pound are listed and an old scale hangs from an upright so you can weigh your purchase. In the wagon is a jar to place your money. No one was home and the jar was stuffed with money.

I found firewood on the side of the road with stamped, self addressed envelopes to mail your payment. It's good to know there are still some trustworthy people in the world.

In Lancaster County, PA, you will find this type of thing everywhere, especially in the New Holland area. It's a different kind of people there.

We saw lots of firewood for sale in Michigan set up the same way. Bundles of wood and a metal box on a post to slip the money into. Very cool to still see some faith in mankind!

The week of the 9/11 tragedy the sight of these trusting farmers near Waterloo Ontario brought me to tears. The good and honourable in a time of indescribable evil.

Honor system
Back when I had my farm (9 years ago) I used to put corn stalks, pumpkins and straw out with the honor system. I'd come home to a full jar of money and even a couple of times an IOU from someone who was going home for the weekend and didn't have cash on them. They'd pay the IOU on Monday on the way back thru. I loved having that feeling that I knew I could trust people.
A man down the road from us sells his Mums, pumpkins, stalks...etc the same way and now I love knowing that I am an honest person paying for my everystuff too!!

Yes, different in many ways. It is a real shame that there are not more honest people in the world like them.

I experienced the same thing back in Iowa...farmer sold horse feed by the bag..pull in load up..write your own receipt...clip money to the clipboard with the receipt..and go!! So convenient..buy your feed any day, any time...never closed. (Feed located in a metal bldg.)
