Smile Jeepin' in the Rockies

We're heading to the San Juan Mountains (Ouray, Telluride and Silverton, CO.) on August 27 to go jeepin'.

It's been 12 years since I've done any off road jeeping. Does anyone know of, or have recommendations for any trails in this area that are easy to moderate for a stock Jeep Liberty. We rode the motorcycles up there last year, but not any off road riding.

We have decided to go and get away from this TEXAS heat! It's reminding me too much of our 1980 TEXAS heat wave.

Staying at the KOA in Ouray as base camp.

That had been our plan this year too. I had wanted to take 3 weeks and we were gonna hit the same area in September and do Black Bear Rd and others then head down to Moab for more but alas my employer won't give me my vacation leave.

I very highly suggest you pick up a copy of 4x4 Adventures Colorado by Peter Masey. Excellent books with lots of history and great pictures and descriptions. He also has books for Utah, Arizona, and California. They make great "dreamin'" books for trip planning. He covers easy to moderate trails for "any SUV". And no the price isn't $138 as Amazon states. He has his own web site too I think. Anyway you can find it for around $25.

Have a great trip and send pics of what we are missing.

Oh well maybe next year....Sigh...
