Summer is a great time of year to visit the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and all of Michigan really.
Porcupine Mountains in UP
Tahquemenon Falls in UP
Soo Locks
Mackinaw Island
Traverse City and Sleeping Bear Dunes
Frankenmuth and Holland MI are both cute towns but one is on the east coast of Lake Michigan, the other is more located central and eastern MI

There is also Sandusky Ohio area as well with Kelly’s Island, Put-in-bay and Port Clinton OH

There are many campgrounds to pick from in all the areas above state parks, state forests, and private.

I rode my motorcycle to a rally in Chattanooga, TN at the end of July one year and hated the weather - 105°F and 100% humidity. Couldn't ride comfortably - spent the day in the hotel pool.

I'll be lucky to dig my TT out of the snow by July. 8" last Saturday, 5" last night and a possible 9" this coming Saturday.

The Rocky Mountains in Colorado or the Appalachian Mountains in North Carolina are your two nearest spots. Colorado is typically the cooler of the two. The Blue Ridge in NC/Tenn is the closer.

Really on the NC mountains? I keep hearing that 'killer' humidity runs clear up thru lower NY in the summer. Would like to go back there some summer, but have avoided it for that reason.

Ditto on the Upper Peninsula. Real nice country and real cool in the summer. Lots of great fishing, too!

We leave SE Texas on or about May 1st and go to the UP of MI. We leave in mid September and get back to Texas about October 1st. Very nice summer weather and lots to do for us old folks.

It would help if we knew what you like to see and do and whether you want to stay for the season in a single FHU RV park or get into the backcountry and boondock. I have lived in Colorado most of my life and have camped all over the state, but I mostly go back to places where I can see and do things I enjoy most.

If the Colorado Rockies sound interesting, you might get some route and camping ideas in my blog HERE.

You can go north to TN and share the cool with thousands of other people. You can make a trip to the Rockies and gain some elevation. The closest would be northern NM.
