July cool weather recommendations
We are planning to leave Louisiana’s oppressive July humidity and temperatures in search of cooler weather.
Any suggestions of excellent parks away from the heat?

Oregon coast. Star Valley, WY
If inland, you need to gain some altitude. Starting about mid July it's forest fire season which means lots of smoke so I'd watch where the fires are and avoid the smoke.

Wallowa Lake State Park, Joseph, OR. You won't be disappointed. It is worth the drive and you are set up for some other great places to visit in a beautiful part of the country.

We usually go to Golden Eagle RV Park in Eagle Nest New Mexico (you should definitely make reservations). It is in the northern part of the Moreno Valley (Angel Fire Ski Resort is on the south end). There are other RV Parks in the valley to the south. Definitely dry though July, August and September are in the New Mexico "Monsoon Season" when they have afternoon thundershowers. Taos is nearby (about 25 miles over a pass) but there are a lot of really neat places to visit relatively closeby. There is fishing in the Cimarron River and in Eagle Nest Lake.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so it all depends on what you are looking for.
If you'd like to drive up a mountain canyon, along a raftable river, and up near 6,500 feet, to a semi-secluded campground on the river, check out Mountain Park Campground.
The campground is in the Rojcky mountains, about 25 miles west of Fort Collins, Colorado (check out "Old Town" while in Fort Collins). This park is so secluded that there is no camp store and no Wifi. It is so popular that you'll need to make sure you have reservations.
Activities: Fising, hiking, mountain climbing, mountain biking, rafting, 4-wheel driving, wildlife viewing.
Lots of birds because there are lots of trees.
Max length 45'
Electric sites. Water and dump station available.

I lived in Anchorage for 3 years back in the early 90s.

Hello from East Texas! I feel your pain.
We have spent the last 3 summers in Grand Lake Colorado, some in July and August and we will be going back this September. It is one of the closest places we have found to get in some better weather.
Not sure what your idea of an excellent park is, but we have stayed at Elk Creek. Very good owners there.

Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park in the UP of Michigan. Right on Lake Superior. Or, Mackinaw Wilderness State Park in the LP on Lake Michigan. Mackinaw SP even has some full hook up lots.

The mosquito is supposedly the Alaska State Bird In some areas they have flies that bite. Some don't just bite, they tear off a piece of flesh and then fly off to consume it where they can't get swatted.
My very first trip to Alaska was in the 70's during July. High 90's in Fairbanks and humid. VERY humid.
The Pacific Coast is almost always very comfortable in July with numerous campgrounds/parks along the Oregon Coast. Also several in WA along the Ocean but it can also run a little cool for people used to warm weather.
The high country in Colorado is one of my favorite places as well as just about anywhere in the Rockies.

PoppySteve, X2 on Grand Lake, Colorado. Multiple campgrounds. Some are RV Resort campgrounds. All will get you out of the summer heat.

Try Ashaway RV Resort in Rhode Island. 4 miles from some of the nicest beaches in New England. July will be warm and may be humid, but the sea breezes are amazing. www.ashawayrvresort.com
