Crooked Creek in Hill City. Minutes away from Rushmore and Custer. I stay there yearly during the Sturgis Rally.

We are staying at the KOA at Palmer Gulch June 20-26 with 6 other families. I have personally never stayed there before, but on of the families that is going out there with us stayed there a couple years ago and suggested it for this trip. They said that its close to everything and has lots of things for the kiddos to do at the CG itself.

The above suggestions are good. The Game Lodge Campground in CSP (campsd.com) is water and electric only, with a dump station at the campground - just in case that matters to you. Rafter J Bar Ranch is a great campground that is centrally located, too, south of Hill City. (rafterj.com) We personally think the Rushmore KOA is crowded, but there are a lot of activities for kids, if that's on your wish list. Sorry I couldn't get the links to the websites. It wouldn't work for me today.

We were there in 2014 June was cool and wet during our stay.
Happy Holiday camp grounds on HWY 16 out of Rapid city.
Site had a covered slap and table with a fire pit.
This is across the HWY.

X3 on the Rafter J Bar Ranch. We where there in 2008 with full hook-ups.
Cost more in fuel to get there and home than any other camping trip since.

I'll be different. We stayed at Grace Coolidge campground in Custer State Park. Cleanest bathrooms I have ever seen camping. Look at the photo album on my profile.

If you'd like to test the strength of your awning, there's a campground just west of Rapid City, on I-90 called 3 Flags....
