Need a southern campground.
Over Christmas we will be visiting the grand baby in Houston.
We have a week including the New Year’s Eve weekend to get home. I would like an interesting place on the way back to Ohio(Dayton) to spend a week.
Any ideas?

Hope you have a good trip. At that time of year the weather can be unpredictable. Once you get north of Hot Springs, AR, many of the RV parks close for the winter. There is Catherine's Landing in Hot Springs that we have stayed at many times. I have never been there in the winter and it is to hot and humid during the summer. It is open all year and it is a nice place. Hot Springs has a lot to do and see with an interesting history and has the hot springs baths. We will be heading to southern FL at that time.

This makes good sense, but it's all about the weather forecast. Depending on how many miles you want to run each day, Hot Springs should keep you south of the potential weather.
We lived NE of Little Rock for 11 years and you can get into some unpredictable freezing and even flooding which can shut down US highways and Interstates.
I would watch the 10 day forecast closely and be ready to go.

x2 on what TeeTime says. Check the weather and be prepared to adjust your travel days and locations.
I grew up in Arkansas. There are weather extremes around the Christmas holidays.
I spent one very cold snow-over-ice Christmas in Hot Springs.
I also got a bad sunburn in Fayetteville during the week between Christmas and New Years.
My last 21 years before retiring were spent in Houston. I saw only one white Christmas. I did see lows in the low 20s at night occasionally. Sometimes it never got to freezing all winter.
The worst Houston winter weather on record saw Galveston Bay freeze over followed by 20" of snow. That was around 1895, but just saying . . . it happens.

We have always enjoyed Hot springs. The horses run at the track there in late January. The Pancake Shop and Keller's restaurant are must stops there.
Memphis would be fun but you never know about the weather. Graceland, Beale street for New Years and Casinos in Tunica, MS and West Memphis AR are a short drive from Memphis. Also, Bass Pro Pyramid and the National Civil Rights Museum among other stuff in Memphis.
Nashville would be good if you would like country music.

I think that in January...Gulfport MS would be a nice diversion since theres nice beaches if the weather is good...and lots of other stuff to do if not. Lots of parks along the coast. And New Orleans is along the route if you need further diversions. From Gulfport it is 12hours to Dayton on the interstates.

By the way, congratulations on the grand baby...it would just be awful if you had to stay a little longer until the weather works out

North Toledo Bend
North Toledo Bend State Park near Zwolle, Louisiana. Beautiful park, nice campsites (water & electric), free laundry facilities, fishing, hiking, biking, and QUIET. Very affordable at about $17 a night. We stay there a few weeks every Winter.
