Niagara falls

Heading to Niagara Falls tomorrow. Any suggestions on where to park the RV and optimal place to view the falls

The good Sam trip planner says there's low clearance on the route. Looks like staying on I190 to to 62 would be a way to go. Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

I’m there now. There is only 1 parking lot that allows RVs.

We’ve been taking NY18 to 104 from Four Mile Creek State Park. While we’ve just been in just the truck, I’m not recalling any low clearance issues.

New York State Parkways have height restrictions. They were built for cars and bridges are extremely low. Some have bridges as low as 6'11".

I think we have driven the Niagara Falls Parkway from Four Mile Creek SP to Niagara Falls SP and I really don't recall any low height restrictions. Though, I do know we saw a sign that said there was a 12' 11" limit.

We were just there, and the optimal place to view the falls is from the Canadian side! While following the NY scenic routes (without the trailer) we encountered numerous low overpasses. Most of our scenic travel was from Niagara east. Tollways and major highways were all fine as far as height restrictions.

Yup......we Canadians got the better end of the deal in this one for viewing the falls.....both the American Falls and Horseshoe Falls Anyone that’s been there can agree on that one.

However.....our American friends can take in the Canadian side for a 30% discount off EVERYTHING you purchase because of the exchange rate.

Such a deal!

Except you may need a passport to get to the Canadian side.

We met a couple from Louisiana who didn't know they needed a passport.

We enjoyed Prospect Point. You are going to find yourself in the Niagara Falls State Park.

If you have a smart phone, you might want to:
Search for Official Niagara Falls Tour in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. I found the link here: https://www.niagarafallsstatepark.co...d-the-tour-app

You guys got casinos on your side too. That's a big plus for degenerate gamblers such as myself.

If you are not spending any time there I would suggest parking at Fort Niagara and taking the chamber of commerce shuttle into town. It drops you off at the point where you can connect with the Niagara Falls State Park trolley ( I think like $3 per person per day) take that to any of the locations for the falls. You could walk across to the Canada side.

A city bus stop is located directly in front of the RV Park. For a very reasonable 24 hour pass fee, the bus takes you to the falls area. From there you can easily walk or take bus to distant sites free. I have stayed there and recommend it on the Canadian side of the falls. Take passport!

"Whoa"!!!!!! I just checked their rates for a 30 amp, full hook-Up back-in site. They are listing $136.00 per day (?). This "may" be Canadian rates, but I did not contact them to clarify. Beware!!!!

It would be a good deal if prices in Niagara Falls, ON weren’t so bloody expensive!! They eat up that 30% exchange rate real quick - especially at restaurants.

When we go to the Falls, we park our TT at a campground well away from the city (about 30-40 minutes) and drive in with just the truck.

Gohawks, if you have passports and are going to come over to this side, you don’t want to miss the drive to Niagara on the Lake and all the little shops there. (Since you’re a Blackhawks fan, if you want to come to this side of Toronto I can show you where Brian Bickle lives.)

It’s very busy this time of year so traffic will be an issue on both sides.

If the OP is going to stay and camp, Four Mile Creek State Park in Youngstown, NY is convenient to the falls (both US and CDN sides) and is inexpensive at $35/night or so.

We were just passing by for the afternoon on our way to Acadia. Ended up taking 62(exit 22 I believe) to main st then to 1st Ave which takes you to the rv/bus parking lot 3 on goat🐐 island. Trip planner helped identify low clearance but was useless in suggesting an alt rout. Google maps also keep trying to send me to the st parkway where low clearance issues are.

Wish we could have went to Canadian side but kids don't have passports yet. . Looked like a big party with the casinos and zip lines.
Thanks for the replies.

We stayed @ Branches of Niagara which is on Grand Island & is minutes from the falls. And without a doubt in my opinion the best view is from the Canadian side so we drove over via Rainbow Bridge with just the dually leaving the 5er @ Branches. With passports in hand, we had no issues crossing and parked at one of the parking lots and walked for the day.

We are already planning next years trip. Thinking about coming through Detroit and across lower Ontario. Prob stop in Toronto at hockey hall of fame then down to Falls. I was a big Bickel fan. Loved the way he dominated Minnesota.

While I agree the Canadian side of the falls has the best view of the falls, I enjoyed the American side more. The electric plant is interesting, but I’m not in to video arcade games, the trinket stores and glitz. I much preferred the large park on the American side. We saw a different view of the falls every few hundred feet or less, as well as seeing the river above the falls.

I saw one lady wading out into the river above the falls. A fellow had a camcorder and I told him to get footage because if she went into the river, he could be on all the morning news shows. He turned to me and said “That’s my wife.” Oops!!!

I don't know how old your kids are, but for future reference - kids aged 15 and under only need birth certificates for driving across the border. Ages 16 and above do.

Glad you enjoyed it, though!
