Nice RV Parks in or near Clearwater Florida

Going to Clearwater, FL in mid August. Cannot seem to find any really nice RV parks. We have 33ft. Motorhome pulling a Jeep Wrangler. ANY SUGGESTIONS ?

Fort Desoto is nice, on the water, a lot of history, salt water fishing, many pull thru sites are available in summer or right on the water. None of the fancy stuff a "resort" has buts it great in my opinion.

X2 on Ft Desoto. Great park and great beach. You can also check out the fort for no charge since you will be at the park.

Pine island is another site that is good but can get crowded certain times of the year.

Even the parks that are advertised as "resorts" have mostly permanent RVs with a few transient spaces.

Looked at pictures of campsites on line, if you take a waterfront site is there a beach in front of the campsite and can you swim right there ? Park looks nice, we like to lay out on beach and get wet in the water.

Sun n Fun, just off I75 but it's farther south in Sarasota if you're interested. HUGE park. Near the beaches. Clean, lots to do there, or do nothing if you please. They are on the web.

Should be able to get in during August. Book now for winter months if any space is available. Expensive during winter but we are there every winter and book next year when we arrive. Certainly not as warm as an hour or so farther south but the park and area is great.
They've announced new owners last month so prices will probably be going up again.

Three Lakes (Sun Resort) in Hudson ...a bit north is a very nice RV centered park and close to everything you might need. I haven't found anything nicer north of Clearwater. We had a great time at JaMar NORTH...but that is more of a residential park. Good luck!

We live in the area and agree that Fort Desoto would be our choice. It's really spectacular UNLESS you want something like a KOA (not our cup of tea). The KOA in Bay Pines (near the V.A. hospital) is a typical KOA Resort.

Madeira Beach KOA is pretty nice and some of the sites are on the bayou and they have a pool. Closer to Clearwater than Ft Desoto.

Check this link. I know 216-221 on west side of park you can swim, it also has a beach for kids to play around in ,no current only about a foot deep, plus the showers are right across the pathway.

We have been to Ft. DeSoto, it is in St. Petersburg, FL. It is a fabulous park, it is a County Park, Pinellas County. You can camp right on the water, but there are no swimming signs all over the place. You could put a kayak or canoe in there, but not swimming. We would drive down to the "proper" swimming beach every day, it will be free for you - and well worth it!!

Have been trying to get into Fort DeSoto ... fortunately they just implemented a change & cancellation fee policy so hopefully those Pinellas residents that would book 1 month before everyone else & then cancel last minute without penalty will stop doing that so the rest of us can get in.

Dog park on the water was full of sludge so it was tough to even wade out to fish, seawall in the non dog trailer part of the park was ok fishing but nothing to swim from. Great beach just a short drive away (or bike ride).

Wish Pinellas / Clearwater would put in some decent campgrounds ... instead we end up in Pasco, Hernando or Hillsborough last minute trips....
