South Padre Island camping Options

Planning to spend a week at South Padre next January. Anyone have a campground to recommend? We like staying close to the beach. Thanks,

Ohh, great timing. I was just looking at campgroundreviews.com for parks in that area. I hope you get good responses!

We enjoyed Majestic Oaks near Rockport. Lots of recent work due to Hurricane Harvey so most things in the park were new. We were there for a month in Feb. 2018. Would certainly go again.

There is a KOA at the south end of the Island. You can see Mexico from there. It looks very nice, palm trees etc.

Isla Blanca Park is a county park at the very southern tip of South Padre - just south of the KOA. There are two parts to the campground. The first is the original park which you have to go through the gatehouse to get to. The other is what appears to have originally been a private campground adjacent to the county park right outside the gate that the county calls the "overflow" area. We stayed in the overflow area, and while it is not as close to the beach and other county park facilities, since it is outside the gate, you don't have to wait in line to get in. You can also walk to the adjacent restaurants and boat docks.

We were wintering in Brownsville this past Dec-Mar and saw on the news long lines of people getting permits for Padre Island at city hall. Not sure what that was about but line stretched for over a city block. If u do get there try Dirty Als seafood at Port Isabel next door. Great seafood.

We stayed at the KOA. It's a typical KOA, if it's a holiday weekend expect GIGANTIC crowds and it will be stacked and packed. If you don't plan on spending time in the park, except evenings it will be okay.
