State Parks here we go...

I just booked a few state Parks for our trip next week.
They include:
-Big Sioux recreation Area, South Dakota
-Lake Ogalla state park Campground, Nebraska
-Caprock Canyons state park, Texas
-Lake Catherine State park, Arkansas
-Tablerock Lake state Park, Missouri

If anyone has been to any of these sites and has anything to share, I would love to hear it.

We did not stay at Table Rock State Park, but we drove by it nearly every day we were in Branson. It is a really nice park, and some other reviews I've read from people that have stayed there have all been positive.

Wow...Caprock Canyons. Hadn't even heard of that one. Of course, I'm down here in the southeast of Texas. But I don't think you'll go wrong there either. Most of the State Parks in Texas are really great and always kept up nice.

I can't speak for any of the others. I will say though that I envy your upcoming trip. It looks like it's going to be a dandy! Please keep us posted as you make your way.

We spent a day in Caprock Canyon in May. It is rugged and dry and it will be HOT in the summer. There are some unusual rock layers in the formations. The road is good. We plan to stop there on a trip to New Mexico next year. Consider Palo Duro Canyon just up the road it is very nice also.

We camped last month at Lake Mcconaughy about last month. This is the big lake which feeds Lake Ogallala. Had a great time. Lake Ogallala area is supposed to be cooler temp wise than the big Lake. You should check out the visitor center up above the Hydro Dam. Pretty neat displays and video of the building of the Dam and how the water flows to then surrounding rivers, etc. We added this camping site to our list of yearly camp sites.
The water is 27 feet deeper than it has been since early 2000. Have fun. We did.

TN, KY, and WV have great parks. The only bad thing about those states is getting a reservation!

Another excellent state park near the 2nd highest peak in the eastern US (Roan Mountain right on the TN/NC line): TN State Parks: Roan Mountain State Park

Sad to say, the NC state parks are not very good. Stick to private campgrounds. South Carolina is better but hit or miss. Georgia parks generally seem rundown due to lack of maintenance...they were really nice 20 years ago.

Lake Catherine & Table Rock are great state parks in very good locations. You will enjoy them i'm sure.
