Tennessee

Anybody know the campground, Reelfoot Lake State Park in Tennessee? We gave up trying to find a campground in Colorado! Maybe next time we will know of a campground early enough to make reservations. (dugh!) this campground looks nice and hopefully quiet...isn't that what camping is all about?

I'm not in that area so I won't be of much help. For members that will be readying this thread and might be able to assist - Are you looking for a campground right now or for a later date?

Reelfoot is a pretty good place. The skeeters are pretty bad sometime, and the fishing is awesome. Not a whole lot around there to do except nature things. Used to be a great restaurant there, but I don't know if it still open.

We already have a campsite reserved but just wanted to find out what's going on around there.

Used to be some flea markets and antique sales in the area,
I am not sure but usually around this time of year they have the arts and crafts festival, it is either in Sept or Oct. can't remember
northeast there are two or three wildlife management areas, if you are into hiking....
not far is Aberthay's Harley Davidson,
Southeast is Jackson Tenn. and I think they have a lot of civil war areas and other scenic areas...

Reelfoot is known for fishing, duck hunting and used to be some outdoor guides in that area.....
Paduach isn't too far, a little bit of drive and they have historic district, the river walk, and a hugh Harley Davidson shop and I think they still have the weekend antique sells.
Dreysburg and Union city aren't too far and have a few things....

If you aren't wanting to drive anywhere once there, it is going to be mostly outdoor things and they aren't very well advertized, probably will have to do the internet search and ask locals...

Been a while since I stayed there, so thing may have changed for better or worst...LOL..LOL..

enjoy....

We just spent a night there last week for the first time. Beautiful Lake, Fishing good. Mosquitos HORRIBLE! Bring lots of bug spray. Showers are clean. My husband and I said it was an ok campground. It is great if you want to just do Nothing. But you are a long way from anything. Right in the middle of farm country. No sewer hook up at site but they do have a dump station area. This is primary if you want to fish type of campground my opinion. I hear they do boat tours, but not sure if that is seasonal. If you are a fisherman you will love it. Want peace and quite you will love it. Looking for attractions near by you will hate it. We do not plan on going back. We are not fisherman and I hate mosquitos. It is a pretty Lake tho.

If you want to drive a little further Chickasaw SP is great. Also Desoto Falls SP in north Alabama is fantastic. Land between the lakes in North Tennessee I hear is nice. Personally not been there. But my favorite SP so far is Desoto Falls SP in Fort Payne, AL.

Good Luck! Have Fun. You may like it. But if you have never been to Desoto Falls SP you will love it. Waterfalls to hike to in fact there is six I believe. Places to go swimming. You can not swim at Reelfoot Lake. That is what got me. Plus Desoto Falls has a swimming pool, Nature seminars from rangers, Just a beautiful area it is around Lookout Mountain. Lots to see. Places to go shopping, A lot of history there.

You would have to go out 50 yds to be deep enough to swim at Reelfoot. Then 1 more step your in 30 ft. Cypress knees are everywhere. Boats down there are called stumpjumpers for a reason. It's a neat place.

I've not camped there yet, but planning to next month. I've been to the small museum and nature trail. They have some eagles that have been injured and also a map of the area where eagles usually nest. The grand kids enjoyed seeing the eagles and snakes that were in the nature center. Hope the skeeters aren't bad next month.
