Do any of you belong to Thousand Trails? Just wondering if it is worthwhile.

For me, it's a great deal and well worth it. However, I have found parks to be acceptable that others have labeled "dumps". Maybe I'm just easy to please!

Is it true that you don't reserve specific sites but get there and then choose from what's unoccupied? We like to pick our site ahead of time as much as possible or at least know what site we will have.

Well, if that is a requirement, you are sol with TT. You choose what is available when you get to the resort. Been a member since 06 and some parks are good, some ok and some are dumps. Orlando is pretty good, Forest Lake is ok and altho Carolina Landing is not one we've visited is what we've be told is a dump. Hershey was nice when we visited in 07.

I would agree with Old Coot, but also would suggest if you are interested and look into buying a membership BUY USED!!!!!!!! Also get the membership# and call member services and have THEM explain what that particular membership is entitled to not the person selling it, good luck on your decision, they are not for everyone but we like ours and make it work for us.

Depends on the membership. But the most common one is their zone passes. For about $500, you get access to their parks in a specific region (they've split the country up into 5 "zones"). That gets you 30 nights of camping. Usually there aren't extra fees; but sometimes there is $3 extra for 50-amp service. Once you hit your allotted # of nights, any additional are $3/night.

You can stay up to 2 weeks at a single park and then have to be out of Thousand Trails entirely for a week. Some higher-level memberships allow 3 weeks and others allow you to go directly to another TT park.

There are a lot of memberships available for sale. As dblr said, if you use the system and want a national membership, it is best to buy a resale. Make sure to get the member number and call TT with it. They change contracts when it's sold and often times you lose some features.

And yes, as mentioned - almost all of the parks are first come, first served. You're guaranteed a place to stay, but not a specific site nor even full hookups or 50amp.

We bought a Thousand Trails Zone Pass a few weeks ago. They had a 2 for 1 sale on so we got the Midwest and southeast zones. If we like it we may think about upgrading in the future. I figure if we use it at least 30 days we will get our money's worth.

As others have said with a zone pass you can stay up to 14 days then you must be out for 7 days. The cost of the pass allows us to stay for 30 nights at no extra cost. After that we get charged $3.00 per night. With the zone pass you can make reservations up to 60 days prior to your stay. (Some upgraded memberships allow you to make reservations 90 days out.)

Also with the zone pass you can get 20% off the weekly rate for up to 2 weeks and 10% off the monthly rate at their Encore Resorts. They also run other sales at the Encore Parks
