Tips for traveling/towing long distances when solo

Hi All,

I am towing my camper from Pennsylvania to Florida and back next month and it looks like I am going solo now. I've hauled this camper over 400 miles now and never had a problem but I always had at least one co-pilot. Now I will be hauling it 2000 miles over 11 days alone, except when I am in Florida with family there.

Any tips for solo drivers? Do you do anything differently when you are hauling your camper long distances alone that you don't do when you have "backup"

Thanks!

I have good music, roll with the windows down and enjoy the ride. Only thing different is I don't have a backup spotter.

Enjoy the trip!

Good music, if you stop on the way down or up get a pull through so you don't have to worry about backing up. Make stops at rest areas and walk around and talk to people if you can to rejuvenate yourself. otherwise just in joy. Solo trips are just as fun as non-solo trips just different.

I have a rule, strongest bladder determines pit stops. Of course, SWMBO somehow wins that battle usually.

Seriously, she's amazed at my towing something that big and worries constantly, which stresses me. It's much more fun with her following me in her van.

Put your wallet in the console before you sit down to drive.

Let's see, no nagging DW, whiny kids or barking dogs? I've only had that once (aside from back and forth to storage.) It was the most relaxing, stress-less drive I've done.

Pull thru's are going to make things easier, but take your time and you can still back it in solo. I do it all the time parking it in storage, and there the guy want's me within a foot of his car port.

Enjoy your trip. Just remember to watch for fatigue on those long hauls. (Goes for both with and without co-pilots.)

first order of long distance driving is, be rested and get comfortable. naps along the way whether for 30 minutes or an hour or 2 in a rest area or truck stop. time/distance calculations/plans go right out the window with an accident, even if nobody gets hurt. 2000 miles over 11 days should be an easy walk in the park though. satellite radio is the ideal form of music selection, followed by those ipod thingys.

Just begun 4 month, 9000 mile trip to Miami by way of Maine.
Drive long day and short day. Stop frequently. Refill every 250 miles and rest. Don't be in a hurry
Pick a spot for a couple days and explore area.
Reservations in advance. Make at previous stop. No room go somewhere else.
Per make meals and freeze.
Will probably write book when done.
Most of all enjoy yourself.
