Travel route from southern Saskatchewan to Mesa, Arizona

Just wondering what the best way to travel from Sask. To Mesa, Arizona outside of dodging lousy weather. We typically have gone through Billings but weather in that area of Montana usually is brutal. Leaving after Christmas pulling a 5th wheel. Thanks

Hmm. Been on I15 and I25 that time of year in the northern states. Either can be good or bad. Just have to watch the weather and keep your fingers crossed. Good luck!!!

I've not done the 15 north if Idaho Falls but from there down is an easy drive

We see a lot of Saskatchewan and Alberta rv’s on the same route we take, which is Great Falls/Dillon, MT to Idaho Falls/Pocatello, ID thru Salt Lake City, Utah to Mesquite Nevada and Vegas. I 15. We watch the weather windows and leave the dates on the front end of our trip fairly flexible in case of storms or bad roads. 2 1/2 days to Mesquite where we dewinterize.

Watch the weather and the road reports. Closely. It has been pretty gnarly lately. It doesn't matter which one (I-15 or I-25) you take.

I haven't done your route but not too far off. I am just to the east of you In Manitoba and have driven it several times. Igave's advice is solid...keep an eye on weather, be flexible, and if you see an open window weather wise, go for it. If when you plan to leave, the forecast is for a system to be going through your route, wait it out and go after it clears...you only need a couple days of good dry roads to get where it's much safer. Cold weather leaving Sask will be your friend as it usually means clearer drier weather. From Manitoba we stay east of any mountain areas as long as we can and bee line it south then west.

I'm down here in SE Arizona and have family in Montana. When I travel north I like to run I-25. Winter travel is always dicey until you get far enough south. Usually south of Raton NM. on I-25.

We have made that trip a number of times just after Christmas as your plans seem to be. I start checking the weather maps for most of the route about a week in advance to see what systems are forecasted. Yes be flexible on departure date. From our location north of Saskatoon, the preferred route has been down to Swift Current, Highway #1 to Gull Lake, south to Harlen/Havre, MT and Great Falls the first night, I15 to Boulder/Whitehall/Dillon and I15 again. This jog bypasses the Butte Pas - many truckers use this route too. Our second night would be either before or after Salt Lake City depending on the weather forecasts. St. George is out of the mountains and time for the RV wash and dewinterize. Our third night was anywhere from Valley of Fire park(Overton) to Boulder City. After that Mesa is a shorter day's drive. On our return trips a couple of times we tried I25 - New Mexico/Colorado but there were some very strong west winds. After Denver, we ended up going east either to #85 or #83 and then north.
