Truck stops-RV friendly for gas
A very naive question from someone who has pulled on trips of 150-to 200 miles only. I'm on my way across country Monday with a 25 ft Rockwood. I have never pulled into a station with the trailer, so do truck stops cater to RV back by the truck pumps, or am I looking for regular gas pumps out front? Do I try to stop at just Flying J's( RV friendly), or do regular Pilot/Loves/etc have gas pumps out back? i have no clue. Help me out here please.

Flying J does have RV pumps.Gas and diesel.A 25; trailer shouldn't be too hard to get into just about any station.Didn't say if it was a 5er or TT.Your height will be the limiting factor. Most truck stop that I've been in don't have RV specific pumps.Remember your Good Sam cards get you 3 cents off a gallon and I believe 5 cents on diesel this month.

I'd say 90% of them you're out on the passenger vehicle islands. I can count those I've encountered with them on the commercial islands on two hands. You're not towing too long at all so you have good options. In addition to truck stops, look for the mega convenience stores such as Sheetz, WaWa, Royal Farms, etc. for easy to navigate pump islands.

No, from what I rember the truck lanes are all diesel fuel. Gas lanes are in the front some are RV friendly and others are not. I do not go to flying J stations as I usually hit the truck stop such as Love's since they have a high turn over of diesel fuel.

When I'm pulling the TT in unknown territories, I start looking for gas stations when the gas gauge hit 1/2 a tank. Gives me plenty of buffer miles to go while I'm keeping a eye out. I had a couple last year that I had backed out of the bay just to get straight otherwise the TT would of hit the pumps.

Check out Trucker Path App for your smartphones etc... You can get specific information on each stop.

You could also look for a nearby parking lot and drop the trailer for the few minutes it would take to go refuel the TV.
First time I pulled into a gas station with my F250 crew cab long bed and a 26 ft TT I nearly clipped the pumps even though I swung as wide as possible without hitting the building.
Gas stops are inevitable but are something I try to avoid doing with the 5'er hooked on. When I must, I try to pull up somewhere near and then scope out where the diesel pumps are and the best way to get in and out.
We do look for Flying J's since many of them have RV friendly pump stations.
Best wishes for a safe journey!

I just got this years addition of the book "the next exit" from Amazon. It list everything on every exit on the Interstates. RV friendly places are printed in red. I don't leave home without it.

Thanks for the app. Looks like that could be very useful. Maybe we should list apps that may be useful to campers.

Going to check this out as well.

Pilot/Flying J, Loves and TA/Petco all have apps. ALL will let you search for the nearest ones and tell you WHAT is available at each one...which can vary quite a bit.
I'm just in the planning stages for an Interstate 40 cross country DASH and I have found flying J has plenty of FULL SCALE RV friendly spots along the way to keep me rested, refueled and rollin' . This PDF may help you if you are headed across as well.
I think it is easier than the apps for pre trip planning. http://pilotflyingj.com/assets/files...ravelGuide.pdf

"Allstays Camp and RV" is another app that we find to be useful.

Since we now have the long, high 5er,i have rethought this problem and am going change out my in bed tool box for a slightly larger one that has a 40 transfer tank built in. I have a 100 gal transfer tank but its about 6" too wide and would interfere with the hitch,so am gonna have to bite the bullet on the 40 gal unit.

Have found most Husky gas stations in Canada were easy in and out when pulling the Windjammer (34'). Never had a problem at Flying J.

TT's are no problem at most stations. Just look ahead, enter slowly and plan your exit strategy before committing yourself.

Fuel Stop
Its frustrating to find a fuel stop when you need it. For the most part we use Pilot/flying j, they have an app which you can use to research the location as regards to the facalities they have at that location. Flying J is by far the best because they have RV fuel islands, the app shows the locations on your route. So just use the trip planing on the app, it will show the Pilot /flying j ,the location plus it will give you mileage from your starting point. Very usefull, on my Rand McNally GPS I can locate my next fuel stop, add to my route and not worry to much about fuel.....you still have to be concerned if there is enough room for you rig.

There is a free app called iExit for smart phones. I have it on my iPhone but have not had a chance to use it yet.

I have a 33 ft TT and it really all depends on the orientation of the pumps. If the pumps are perpendicular to the store you may not have a wide enough swing or you might be blocking the driveway. If you have pumps parallel to the store you generally have more room to maneuver.

Our trailer is about the same as yours, but we use diesel. I usually look for the best price. Sometimes I have to maneuver a little to get there, but it works out okay.
