Virginia Beach

Returned from a great weekend in Virginia Beach. The weather was great, kids had a great time participating in the Halloween festivities.

Can I ask where you stayed? We are looking to go on a beach trip this year.

We stayed at Holiday Travel Park. It is 1.5 miles from the beach. In the summer they run a shuttle to the beach. There is a bike trail to the beach and they also have a parking lot 1 block off the beach for the use of their patrons.

It is a big park, we stayed in the super sites which are concrete with large picnic tables, etc.

If you rather a quiet, state park atmosphere then I recommend checking out First Landing State Park. It is about 15 minutes north of Virginia Beach. We just returned from there and highly recommend it!

How close to the ocean were you? Does the state park have any hook ups? Water, electric, sewer? Pictures look awesome!

Attached (hopefully) is a link to the site. If not just do a search for first landing state park. I believe they have electric and water hookups but not sewer or cable.

That is correct.....Electric and water, but no cable or sewer. There is a dump station near the entrance station if you need to dump via your blue boy for a mid-stay dump. There are about 20 TV stations that are receivable via antennae.

The beach is on the Chesapeake Bay. Not quite the waves that are on the ocean.....that can be good during stormy weather. If you want to do the crowded beach scene off the boardwalk and don't want to drive, there is a bike path in the park that connects with the bike path on Atlantic Ave.....great bike riding. Beware, the park bike paths are dirt & sand (and sometimes mud), so a road bike would not be practical.

Firefighter we were backed up to the dunes with the bay/beach behind us but people are not allowed to walk through them at all. We had to walk along the CG road to the nearest wooden crossover (our site was about 5 sites away from this), and we would then cross over the wooden structure to access the beach. The beach area was very large. When we were there it was quite windy, thus it does look like there are waves are compatible with the ocean, but most days the water is much calmer than shown in my picture. The wooden crossovers were approximately a couple of hundred feet long over the dunes and offers some built in benches as well as a shower to rinse off any excess sand. This was a nice help! We really enjoyed our stay there. As others above have mentioned there were only electric and water hookups, no sewer. We had no difficulty obtaining the main television networks using only our antenna. Hope this info helps.

Another note. We have stayed there for 5 nites, and have not needed to empty our waste tanks. The campground has nice showers, so no need to fill the tanks with shower water. If you have more than 2 campers, except for middle of the nite pit stops, go to the campground restrooms for bodily functions.....they are maintained well.
